Default oc'ing a flashed 9800

I flashed my Hercules radeon 9800np to a pro yesterday and I started oc'ing...

I opened ATITool and used 'find max core' and 'find max mem'.
the results are: core = 396 and mem = 366

Isn't this quite low? Can I continue oc'ing manually?

Another thing: Now that my 9800np is a 9800 pro, can I flash it again to a 9800XT?? (I think not, but just to be shure)

Thanks.

the core/mem found with atitool are supposed to be 100% artifact free, you might be able to clock higher with a few artifacts which are invisible to the eye. increasing cooling will help also

about the flashing, if your videocard can run at XT speeds (both core/mem) then it should not be a problem.

I have the same card and +- 400 core is normal. If you buy an vga silencer you can can add another 10 mhz on core, i advise you to place a fan blowing over the memsinks (i have +- 280 on mem).

greetz

btw flashing to an xt can only give you more problems ( the core of this card is an R350) so stay away from the xt flash.

ok, thanks for the info...

When I will buy a new case, I will mod a sidehole in it for the memsinks.

Your 9800 did this with the "find max"-feature of ATITool? Because I think the speeds found by this program will be lower if you use this feature.

edit:
By the way, what is "stock cooling"? I mean, what card do you have because there are many different types of stock cooling. My card doesn't have heatsinks on the ramchips for example.

I'm very sure that you have artifacts!!!
mine is at 394/370 and if I go any higher with the core I get dot-artifacts and if I go higher with the mem I get 'slash'-artifacts

My cards doesn't clock very high with ATITool. Only 360 Mhz memory and only 380 core!! And that sucks because I have a 9800 pro and stock speeds are 378 (core) and 338 (mem). So you scores with a 9800 np with stock cooling aren't that bad
I took a look at the log-file of ATITool and saw that my card produced 1 artifact when ATITool clocked it higher then 383 Mhz. So I clocked my core a bit higher and I don't have visuable artifacts. But when I clock the core to XT-speeds (412), I have to many artifacts.
This week I'll cool the gpu with water and put some sinks on the memory and then I'll try again. Hopefully with better results.
