PARENTAL ADVISORYInstalling Ubuntu-desktop on "dumb"-user desktops (office + browser) in an office environment seems a very plausible and cost-effective solution. Cost-effective as it is open source, cost-effective as it is easy to install, more native and users will work more efficiently and faster.
I would recommend experiencing Ubuntu by installing it on a separate PC. No dual-boot with an MS OS, because you are too lazy to reboot ... and you have no backup/lookup solution when things go wrong. No single-boot with only Linux, sure you are forced to use it, but same here: you have no backup/lookup solution when things go wrong.
At the same time I would recommend installing Ubuntu as a server because of it is highly configurable, safe, user-friendly, modular and native.
Conclusion of APC with a different outcome then ours:
Open Source Challenge I think the key may lie in open source cross platform software. If I would be more used to software (like Gimp) on Windows, the switch may have lasted longer ... who knows? Maybe have a look
here, some freeware titles are derived from a Linux version ... get used to them!
btw, bosw8er, are you frustrated or something ? Nice article .
