Oxidious - Extreme Thermaltake Kandalf Casemod

Modding/Case Mods by Olivier @ 2007-01-30

Guest writer Olivier tackles this high end enclosure, building an XBOX 1 game console inside, a small TFT, a truckload of LEDs and custom made PCB to control them all. Read on to find out how he turned a run of the mill Thermaltake Kandalf into an entertainment center.

XBOX Integration and LED bars in Action

XBOX

My XBOX was lying around, pretty much unused; why not make it useful again? I removed the XBOX from its original case and integrated it inside some of the spare 5.25” bays.

I made extra connections in the front panel to hook up the controllers and power cable.

End Results – Overview

While I finished the case mod last summer, it wasn’t until somewhere in November before I got around to buying and installing hardware inside. I was able to fit a more than respectable gaming machine

  • Asus P5B Deluxe
  • Intel C2D E6600
  • Corsair 1Gb PC6400 XMS Pro
  • Seagate 320Gb + WD 400gb (extern)
  • MSI NX7900GTO
  • BenQ DW1670
  • Dell 2407WFP

The full frontal shot; although the Kandalf had plenty of spare bays when I started this mod, almost none are left unused:

    Movie!

During the modification of this case I learned a lot, the mirror mod was cool to do, and it came out as I wanted, the LED bars were a challenge to put together, but with all of them in action it might go a bit overboard? I like *bling* but it might not be for everybody’s taste.

Hope you liked reading my work log, until next time!
