Double Damage - 2-in-1 Case Mod

Modding/Case Mods by Bernd @ 2006-02-20

What?s better than one PC? Two of course! When Bernd decided to build a dual CPU system he took a rather unique approach. Rather than strapping 2 CPU?s to one motherboard or using one of the latest Dual Core offerings from AMD/Intel he has been working on a case which can house 2 systems nicely, with good cooling and easy functionality through one keyboard/mouse and monitor.

Day 4: PSU Rack

Day 4

Two systems need to two power supplies, so I had to make a custom bracket to hold them in their place. I used MDF to make U shaped form

MDF Stands for "medium density fiberboard." It is an engineered wood made from compressed and bonded wood fibers. MDF is very dense and stable, allowing for very fine tolerances when machined, and is used as a substrate for some sheet goods and doors.

First I glued the panels together and then hit some nails for extra strength

I printed out a template on 1:1 scale of the mounting and fan holes, I glued it to the back plate, and this will make it easy to cut everything out

Almost done now;

Now I need to make some adjustments to the holes to make the connectors fit

A first test-fit with two old and broken power supplies; thanks to the template everything fits perfectly

Time to glue everything together

And the last step is making 2 attachment rails so the rack can be installed inside the case securely.

The left rail is a bit shorter because of the custom layout inside the case, it will be a tight fit
