BitFenix Colossus ATX Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by stefan @ 2010-09-21

The Colossus is the first case launched from BitFenix, a new company on the market. The case has some interesting features like a very innovative TRON-like lightening, a top compartment with lock and the cable routing/hiding options. The included 2x230mm fans provide enough cooling and there is a fan controller that has spare connections for up to 4 extra fans.

Packaging & A Closer Look Part 1

Packaging:

The Colossus is the first case from BitFenix, a new company on the market; the Business Development Manager for this company is Coco Lee, which worked previously for Cooler Master and explains us that “BitFenix” is composed from the word “Bit”, which refers to all things digital and the digital lifestyle and “Fenix”, which is an alternate spelling for the mythical firebird.

The product has arrived in a pretty big cardboard box, not very easy to carry because of its weight, which is approx. 16Kg. On one of the box sides, we can see a large BitFenix logo, along with the name of the case and the full web address on the bottom:

On another side, we can see a table with all the specifications listed:

The opposite side shows us some photos of the case explaining its main features:

If we get the case out of the outside protective packaging, we can see that it is further protected on the bottom and on the top with white foam:

On the outside of the case, we can observe the nicely designed laterals, with the spaces through which the light will come out when the computer is turned on:

On the frontal door, we can see on top the BitFenix logo, which also lights up and some spaces that follow up the lateral design:

The back side of the case is also fully painted in black and features 4 holes for water cooling, a space to mount a 140mm fan, 8 PCI slots which have shields with holes, so air passes through and on the bottom there is the place to mount the power supply:

As the top and the door, the frontal part is covered with a rubber coating on the laterals and in the center we can find the 5.25’’ covers, along with the mesh which has in the back a big 230mm fan; as it can be seen in the photo, the door can be placed on the right too, because Bitfenix has already drilled the holes for the door latches:

In the upper part, we can find the openings through which the cables will pass, the lock which can keep secure the top compartment, along with the power and HDD activity LEDs:

Between the frontal part of the case and the door, we can find a little 2-wire cable that powers the front door lights:
