TRENDnet High Speed PC and Mac Share Cable (TU2-PMLINK) Review

TRENDnet have developed a device which makes data transfer between 2 PCs, a PC and a Mac or 2 Macs very easy. We simply have to connect the cable to both computers, start the included file manager application and that´s about it! Let´s look a bit more in-depth at this data transfer cable, in the following review.

Inside the box

The data transfer cable from TRENDnet comes in a transparent sealed plastic package; on the frontal part we can see the dongle on one side of the cable and the plain USB connector on the other side; here we get to see some product features, the TRENDnet logo, the product name and its code name:

On the back of the box, we get the complete feature list, the product specifications, some related products, also from TRENDnet and a product description in multiple languages; on the top we can also see a USB solution recommended by the company; finally, on the bottom, we can see that the application is compatible with most operating systems:

Inside the package we can find a little User Guide which tells us, step by step, how to operate the product, its system requirements and package contents, in multiple languages; in the last part of the User Guide we also get a Troubleshooting chapter:

The 1.8m cable is wrapped together with a plastic wire:

The dongle looks like an USB flash drive, with connectors on both sides; on its top part we can see the TRENDnet logo, the product code name and a green LED which lights up continuously before the drivers are installed, with the other cable disconnected; after the drivers install automatically and the dongle is recognized by the computer, the LED starts to pulsate ; when both computers are connected with the adapter, the LED continues to pulsate. During a transfer, the LED will flash rapidly:

On the back of the dongle, we can see again the product code name, its revision and a serial number:
