Sabrent Rocket nano NVMe Gen3 PCIe 2242 M.2 2TB SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2023-01-29

The Sabrent Rocket nano offers quite a bit of capacity in a smaller than usual form factor and in order to hold a much higher sustained write rate during continuous transfers versus QLC drives, TLC NAND was used. It is a double-sided drive, integrates a small copper heatspreader in order to evacuate heat easier and remains cooler versus most PCIe 4.0 drives.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Recently, another interesting storage product has arrived in our test labs, at least in terms of format: the Rocket nano 2TB 2242 M.2 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD, which is meant to be used in smaller enclosures, while offering quite a bit of storage space. This is a DRAMless drive and in order to compensate this aspect and maintain higher sustained writes, Sabrent went with TLC NAND instead of the usual QLC, which is mainly used with entry-level drives.

As usual, the Sabrent Rocket Nano 2242 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD has arrived in a fully sealed packaging, also advertising the Acronis True Image cloning software:

The top layer of the packaging made of cardboard does highlight the drive appearance in the front, together with the capacity:

The name of the drive is also written on the sides:

On the back, we will note the product internal code name but also its serial number:

The inner layer of the casing is made of aluminum and really gives out a premium feeling. A central sticker with a photo of the drive does act as a hinge between the two halves:
