Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2020-04-02

Judging by the length of the supplied USB Type-C cable, the X8 was mainly thought to be used with more portable devices such as laptops, tablets or even consoles. Thanks to the high read/write speeds, we can successfully use the drive for productivity tasks and not only for backups and data migration from one computer to the other, solving a lot of issues in case your device has not been equipped with a high-capacity SSD. During normal use, the aluminum unibody chassis of the product can become warm to the touch, meaning that it is also used as a heatsink for the internal drive.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Not long ago, Crucial has launched its X8 Portable SSD, which is quite speedy with read speeds up to 1050MB/s in order to backup our important data and is compatible with a large range of devices. The product can be bought with two different capacities (500GB and 1TB) and is backed by a 3-year limited warranty worldwide.

The external drive is shipped inside a very compact cardboard enclosure, which shows a photo of the product, along with a list of compatible systems, the total storage capacity but also highlights the rated read speed:

On one of the box sides, Crucial did list the box contents:

Finally, on the back we will get a small product description, in multiple languages, together with links to the supplied online resources:

After we did remove the top packaging layer, we have spotted the X8 Portable SSD, sitting secure inside a transparent plastic mold, but also wrapped in a transparent plastic bag:

Some documentation is also supplied with the product, along with the data transfer cable:
