Corsair Obsidian 450D Mid-Tower Computer Case

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2014-04-28

Corsair introduced early this year at the CES fair another case to the strong Obsidian lineup: the Obsidian 450D. Being labeled as the smaller 750D variant it blends in perfectly between the existing range from the humongous full-tower 900D model to the cube shaped Obsidian 250D. The 450D model is here to satisfy the need for a spacious interior combined with an optimized air flow, ready to fit crazy customized water cooling equipment. Nevertheless combining this with the sleek looks and design, typical of the Corsair Obsidian series.

A Closer Look Part II

The Obsidian 450D is standard equipped with three Fans: the two front intake fans are 140L models, derived from the Air series, spinning at +/- 1000rpm and providing about 54.0 CFM airflow. The two 140L Fans are rated to operate at +/- 20dBA.

The rear exhaust fan is a 120mm variant versus the 140mm model on the bigger brother the Obsidian 750D, spinning at +/- 1300rpm it will provide more than plenty of airflow to expel the heat via the rear.

Even though the Obsidian 450D is well equipped out of the box, this case offers the possibility to install up to 8  fans in total. The below picture tells more than a thousand words could ever do.

Ventilation is nice, however PC hardware is dust collector, so the usage of dust filters is a must. The dust filter built-in the front fascia looks at first glance not that great as the mesh is quite big, though during testing a lot of dust was kept out of the case and it piled up on the front, thus the Corsair engineers did their homework properly.

Both the top and bottom dust filter are held into position via small magnets, thus making them easy to remove and reposition. On the right hand picture one can spot the 240/280/360 radiator compatibility in the top of the  450D. The Obsidian 450D is compatible with the following Hydro Coolers from Corsair:

  • H55/60/75/80i & H90
  • H100/100i & H110

The bottom dust filter also reveals the possibility to install two 120mm fans or one 240 radiator in the bottom; in case of the latter the HDD cage has to be removed.

The power supply rests on four small anti vibration dampers; power supplies up to 200mm in length are supported.
