iHome iP1 Studio Series Audio System for iPhone/iPod Review

Audio/Speakers&Amps by stefan @ 2011-03-03

The iP1 Sound System with iPhone/iPod dock from iHome sports a very modern look and comes with enough power for most home users; the Bongiovi DPS sound enhancement is also present on this unit like it was on the iP49, along with an extra set of speaker faces, Component Video output and Line-in jack for using it with different external sound sources, without the need to have an iPhone/iPod plugged in at that time.

A Closer Look Part II

The remote control is shaped the same as the one that came with the other iHome products, but this one has some extra functions, like the ability to modify the Bass/Treble settings, or reset them to default:

On the back of the remote, we can see the area where the battery is located; between the electrical contacts in the remote and the battery there is a plastic film, to avoid accidental discharges during transport or storage:

After the small cap removal, we can reveal the battery, which is the well known CR2032 model:

In the plastic bag with the documentation, we can find an User Guide, some advices in case we have problems connecting our iPhone/iPod to the device and a soft cloth to remove the stains and dust from the frontal side of the product:

In the User Manual, we can find instructions on how to operate the product, how to connect external sound sources and how to link it to a TV, with the provided Component interface:

The extra speaker faces are offered in case we want to change the appearance of the product (these faces do not offer the same speaker protection as the ones preinstalled on the iP1):

The speaker faces do not come alone, but with a guide on how to swap them:

The power adapter is larger than the ones shipped with the previously reviewed iHome products, along with plugs for different countries:

To avoid scratches during transport, the iP1 is fully wrapped in a transparent plastic film:

The front side of the product looks amazing, the speakers along with the dock are encased in a thick acrylic plate:

The speakers come with the metallic mesh faces preinstalled, which are very easy to remove:
