NVIDIA Geforce 8400GS Overclocking Guide

Howto by geoffrey @ 2008-03-12

Few months back we had a peak at the GeForce 8400GS and we saw how performance wise this card is not that bad of a choice considering its price. Even with that narrow 64-bit bus we could greatly improve the performance of our test samples, but we do feel that there is quite some left in those cards, could we double our framerates with more volts supplied?

Below you'll find the voltmods for the Albatron GeForce 8400GS. Watch out, double check if you card is exactly the same, there are quite some different board designs out there and you can easily be mistaken. Even in Albatron’s own 8400 line-up we found two very different PCB's.

For the GPU, use the following modification:

Madshrimps (c)

You should solder a variable resistor between the red point and any ground (purple). As value consider using a variable resistor of 50k, make sure the VR is trimmed to maximum resistance. For 1,4V GPU you can use a fixed resistor of around 1073 Ohms.

And for the memory, you should do this:

Madshrimps (c)

You should solder a variable resistor between the red point and any ground (purple). As value consider using a variable resistor of 50k, make sure the VR is trimmed to maximum resistance. For 2,1V GPU you can use a fixed resistor of around 782 Ohms.
