Default World of Warcraft gets DirectX 12 support

Kills support for DirectX 9

Blizzard has recently released its latest Battle for Azeroth pre-patch for World of Warcraft, which has both finally added support for DirectX 12 as well as killed support for DirectX 9.

While it was expected that the DirectX 12 support will bring some performance gains, it appears that it does not work quite well for Nvidia users, which have also reported lower performance on DirectX 12. Those running on AMD Radeon graphics cards are reporting some increased performance, which is always a good thing.

Blizzard has noted that you should update your graphics card drivers to make the most out of it and avoid potential issues. It also added that AMD and Intel GPUs will default to DirectX 12, while Nvidia will remain at DirectX 11 by default until further notice.

In addition to the added DirectX 12 support, the new pre-patch also removed DirectX 9 support, which means that World of Warcraft will no longer function on Windows XP, marking an end of an era.

The automatic graphics setting in the game is also switched from the previous low, medium, and high to number slider from 1 to 10.

We already wrote about the Battle of Azeroth expansion back in April, with all the details including new races, new kingdoms, new level cap and more.

The World of Warcraft: Battle of Azeroth, which is the seventh expansion, will officially launch on August 14th, 2018.
