Huawei launches first 5G phone

Chinese smartphone company Huawei said that its first commercial 5G phone will launch on the 20th of June and cost £999.

The phone, the Mate 20X 5G, uses a Kirin 980 processor and a 7 nanometer multimode chipsed dubbed the Balong 5000.

The smartphone has a 7.2-inch screen and supports standalone and non standalone 5G networking modes.

The Balong 5000 not only supports 5G but previous mobile generations. The smartphone uses a vapour chamber and graphene heat pipes to keep things cool.

The camera is a Leica-based matrix camera which supports a 40MP wide angle camera, a 20MP ultra wide camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. Huawei claims all day battery life. The smartphone can be pre-ordered in the UK towards the end of May while different outlets including EE, O2, Three and Vodafone will sell it from the 20th of June.

* Meanwhile, Huawei also announced an open platform system called Ability Gallery aimed at letting developers integrate with its network to create content and services. The firm said that it already has over 600 developers in the scheme.
