Epic Games targets iOS and Android with store launch

Epic Games has announced plans to expand its digital storefront, the Epic Games Store, to iOS and Android platforms by the end of 2024.

The announcement came during the company’s State of Unreal presentation at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2024.

Epic Games Store general manager Steve Allison said the mobile storefront will feature the popular game Fortnite and a variety of titles from third-party partners eager to join the platform upon its launch.

To attract developers, the mobile Epic Games Store will offer an 88/12 base revenue share and waive Unreal Engine royalties, mirroring the incentives currently available on the PC version of the store.

This strategic expansion follows a series of legal disputes involving Epic Games and tech giants such as the fruity cargo cult and Google. Job’s Mob has been notoriously stringent about allowing competing storefronts on its devices, leading to a ban on Fortnite when Epic Games tried to bypass the App Store’s transaction system.
