Default E3 2023 gets officially canceled

And it is not an April's Fools

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that E3 2023 has been officially canceled.

The event was previously scheduled to take place from June 13th to 16th at the Los Angeles Convention center, and would actually be the first in-person E3 in the last four years. The email sent by ESA to its members, and caught by IGN.com, confirms that while it was a difficult decision, they had to do what was right for the industry and the E3, and cancel the event.

"This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what's right for the industry and what's right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn't have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn't overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we're sorry we can't put on the showcase you deserve and that you've come to expect from ReedPop's event experiences," said Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming.

Considering that many of the publishers have pulled from the E3 2023 event, and have announced their own live events, including more recently Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft/Xbox, and Nintendo.

Reedpop and ESA did say that they will continue to work on future E3 events, so it would be interesting if the organizers will change the concept of the event or try to make it happen in the same format next year.
