the reason for the whole Steam platform is threefold unlike they are telling:)

1) to deliver software straight to the customers, cutting out the middle men and reduce cost
2) supply the customer with lastest updates and patches

and 3) check for legal version:)


btw if you don't trust Valve, you should remove Windows from your system also:)
