Still lords of the Silicon jungle

While AMD and Apple are busy flexing their silicon muscles, a new report has revealed that they have a long way to go before they can even threaten Intel with a sizable threat.

A report from beancounters Canalys says that Intel is still grabbing the lion's share of the PC processor market with a whopping 78 per cent market control. While that figure is high, it has been much higher than that in the past.

Canalys said that in the great silicon race of 2023, Intel flogged a staggering 50 million chips worldwide. AMD managed a mere eight million, and Apple six million. That's 78 per cent for Intel and 13 per cent for AMD,. Just scraps for the likes of Apple, MediaTek, Qualcomm, and ARM.

And get this – Intel's not just shipping; its raking in the euros too. Their shipment revenue shot up by two per cent to a cool €40 billion. AMD's not crying over spilled silicon either, with a six per cent growth and eight billion euro in the bank.

When it comes to who's shipping what, Lenovo, Dell, and HP are the top dogs, cornering over 70 per cent of all Intel CPU shipments. Lenovo and HP are neck and neck, while Dell's not too shabby either. AMD's got a different story, with Lenovo leading the pack and Asus making a splash.

Sure, Intel hit a few bumps last year, with their biggest financial nosedive ever, but Canalys says they're still the kings of the CPU castle.
