DyNaRaX 26th August 2006 19:12

what do you mean?

Do you want to knwo if you have sata on your mobo?
Do you want to find your sata ports on your mobo?
How to connect sata drives?
....

slvrl7 26th August 2006 19:15

i have sata ports on my mobo but i look at computer store there is sata 3.0 what is this?

DyNaRaX 26th August 2006 19:27

the first sata was 1.5Gb/s, the latest SATA is 3Gb/s or Sata II.

Most of the Sata II hdd's are backwards compatible

slvrl7 26th August 2006 19:37

i think my sata is 1.5Gb will it suit my sata HDD 3.0?

slvrl7 28th August 2006 21:09

what is clantak?

wutske 28th August 2006 21:28

okay, we're getting nowhere overher :D .

So, there is SATA (aka SATA150) and SATA2 (aka SATA300).
SATA = SATA2 , the only real difference is that the maximum througput is 300Mb/s on SATA2 vs. 150Mb/s on SATA and SATA2 supports NCQ (some tweak to get more speed, most of the time you won't even notice).

It's made to be interchangeable, a SATA2 drive works perfectly on a SATA connection and vise versa.

Now the RAID part. I can tell you one thing, yes, the chip on your motherboard supports at least RAID0 and RAID1, how do I know ... every SATA controller supports those RAID modes. Now RAID can be a bit complicated, google a bit and you'll see the light again :D
