athlon memory speed question

would 2100 mhz (183*11.5@ cas 2 2-2-5) be slower or faster then 2100 mhz (200*10.5 @ cas 2.5 -3-3-7)?
there's a 17 mhz increase of fsb but seriously slower timings...

best way to tell would be superpi or sth?I don't use sandra.
would there be realworld difference when you don't game?
probably not...

when you don't game ? no difference

The Senile Doctor 2nd January 2004 13:00

as it's a non game pc, I'll leave it as it is at 183*12.5 cas 2 2-2-5

The Senile Doctor 2nd January 2004 14:12

and for games?

to whom it may concern :

p4 3530 mhz at fsb 235 1.1 ram at cas 3 3-3-6 (tightest possible with my pc3700 at any setting) : 3dmark 21834
p4 3530 mhz at fsb 235 5:4 ram at cas 2 2-5-2 (tight as a duck's *** on pc3200) : 3dmark 21745
p4 3530 mhz at fsb 235 3:2 ram at cas 2 2-5-2 (ram is only at 158!! it's got to bottleneck the cpu now...) : 3dmark 21.012

so the difference on my system in identical conditions between 1:1 at cas 3 3-6-3, and 5:4 cas 2 2-5-2 is 0.3%... which is neglectable in any situation...

for gamers, wait a couple of days.

I just borrowed a stik of Bh-5 from richy, got me an FX5900XT, time to test it, with different memory timings.

for games use Q3A 640x480, it is a very memory-bandwidth driven application and it shows you the slighest difference remarkably well and repeatidely !
