HOWTO: Internet Explorer quick search In IE5.x you could lookup MS knowledge base articles quickly by typing: "MSKB q123455" without quotes in the address bar. In ie6 it is removed, but it is a feature! Which can be enabled in IE and not only for MS KB but any search site. save underneath text in regfile and merge it. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\MSKB] @="http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=%s" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\AV] @="http://www.altavista.com/sites/search/web?q=%s" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\Ggl] @="http://www.google.com/search?q=%s" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\MSN] @="http://search.msn.com/results.asp?q=%s" |
afaik, is this right? go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\ << shortcut >> ] and create there a string with the desired url, right? |
correct :) |
copy paste in notebook + save as .reg REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\Google] @="http://www.google.com/search?q=%s" bummer it doesn't work :( still searches with msn |
did you reboot ? you have to use "Google searchword" in the titlebar , with the key you imported |

uhm not quite :p if you imported the keys from the 1st post you just need to enter "MSKB q123456" :leet: |
IE6 imported regfile with "google" - string (google in stead of "Ggl" mentioned in first post - doesn't influence the result but more appropriate naming) 1) address bar -> fill in "madshrimp" result = msn search 2) address bar -> fill in "google madshrimp" result = google search :D |
ehm, if I type "mad" in my adress bar, I want to go immediately to www.madshrimps.be how to do this? can't be that hard ;) |

@TeuS it is the SEARCH you can specify, 1st word the URL, 2nd word(s) the item to search default for IE6 is MSN, so when you just fill in madshrimps it will look there, if you fill in "google madshrimps" the preconfigured regsettings will kick in & will send you to http://www.google.com/search?q=madshrimps this is not a way to make a shortcut to a certain site. What you want to do can be accomplished by creating a bookmark in the root of favorites named "mad" and that points to www.madshrimps.be if you then fill in mad in the address bar it will give you the option to go to the MAD bookmark. or alternativly you can add a line to the hosts file on your PC \\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC ip of [M] site MAD but I doubt that this will work since this is a shared virtual hosting edit: checked it, doesnt work :/ @Bosw8er: you figured it out, congratz only took you 2h40min :p |
