Project phase-change "maybe cascade"(old beginning chiller thread)

starting a new project even my old one is not finisched yet:^D

so whats this al about.
because my previous unit wasn't that good(mounting, insulation, etc...)
i am going to make something where this is not needed (not mutch).
so what is a chiller?
its just and evaporator in a tank that chills the water and a coil (rad) thats cooling you procc.
just a watercooling with a watercooled rad(chilled water)
here is pic from a small beercooler @ school.

so i am going to make this, but smaller then.

stuff needed?
a tank to put the water in(think i am going to the local hardware store or kitchen stuff alike store.
copper: lol, just ask my teacher.
a proppelor to keep the water moving(
thats it i guess.
i've got a compressor still here and a condensor too

and this don't belong to the cooling but its needed too.
just a tank on a comprr and a condensor isn't that impressive:grum:
so mod that unit a bit.
going to apply sort of a logo on it.

going to cut that i plexi and apply it on one of the sides (w'll be lighted with ultra bright leds)

i'll update asap

kr15t0f 4th January 2005 01:57

seems like a nice project. :super:

jort 4th January 2005 01:59

tnx, i'll try to make it better then the previous;)
the mod part won't be the problem,
just the cooling part(i'll try my best, still have to ask my teacher) :p but i can make everything @ home beside the cooltechnica part

;)

wutske 4th January 2005 09:58

I don't think you'll need that propellor. The water won't freeze if you use anti-freeze and your pomp will make the water move already.

kristos 4th January 2005 10:14

http://www.icecoldcomputing.com/text...page.php?id=30

conclusion : water-methanol mixture

http://www.icecoldcomputing.com/text...page.php?id=67

conclusion : -40°C = bad news for chillers :grum:

there are prolly pumps that are made for those temperatures.

jort 4th January 2005 10:35

damn that sucks.
idd i'll look around 4 a pump that can handle sutch temps.

het btw tnx for the info :super:

forgot about that:wtf:

edit(but i our school they use regular water, and its -10).

but we have a chiller to with antifreese thats -40, but they still use a proppelor:grum:

jort 4th January 2005 15:36

about the proppelor i think its for better heattransaction:)

Nazaar 4th January 2005 18:21

looks like a "cool" project

:^D

Nazaar 15th January 2005 19:15

any progress on this one ?

jort 15th January 2005 20:56

not yet, teacher is not very happy on me because 3/4 of the time i am doing nothing. when i do something i pas most students @ 1h of work.
so i going to sleep more, so i can work harder en faster. so my work is faster done then the others.
so i can do something else :p

but i've got a "small" problem, the compressor i have isn't that powerfull, i need a low capable comprr
but a new one is not an option and one of a fridge isn't that powerfull eather. think i've got to take a less powerfull because otherwise i will never be finisched.

jmke 15th January 2005 20:59

you should work fast then in class and use your gift to become the first Belgian phase-change unit producer:)

jort 15th January 2005 21:08

lol, you've seen the market of phase-change.
not mutch, prize to high for what it does.
if i've got a job and a companycar i've got all the equipment i need.
if i find a good investor and is looks interesting why not.
(still i need some experience first, and now i don't have many time to do right now)
think w'll have to wait what time gives:)

Is my cooling unit usefull and strong enough for you?
Just give me a "hey mofo, still awake?" on my msn
;)

jort 15th January 2005 22:23

yes and now.
the one you have cant run here all the time.
the electric bill:rolleyes:

just a 1/2hp or something, i'll check junkyard for a refrigerator.
maybe another compressor thats lying around here. its one of a HUGE freezer, i took the controls too and there was a scale on it that went -32 :super:

the right one :)

going to look for a hlog-p diagram of r600a

jort 18th January 2005 16:50

i've got some GOOOOOD news.
today we have to move and throw some stuff away.(freezers, fridge, etc...)
offcourse i checked some compressors :D
found some real rusty black ones, but i found a "clean" black one with the following stuff on
=> R12, FR10A danfoss lst lbp 230V 1/4Hp
so checked inet offcourse and i found something realy interesting

http://www.farmina.ru/novosti/novost12.htm

you like it allready?
i hope that the numbers are correct or else i'll kill that comprr.

edit: i'll test him tomorrow(wish me luck:grin: )

:super:

Da_BoKa 18th January 2005 17:30

those numbers are chinese to me but anyhow, good luck!

jort 18th January 2005 17:34

.ru:)

the numbers mean how mutch coolingpower you have @ an certain temperature in W.
cappilaire tube have to set right too, because the flow is important too like a WC.

jort 19th January 2005 23:21

today i tested the compressor.
i meggered it and it was in perfect condition.
Quote:

The "Megger" instrument for measuring the insulation resistance of electrical devices
because acid can form with air and coolant.(thats why you need to pull you installation vacuum before you fill it witch coolant)
after years of lifetime the windingsinsulation gets weaken, and when your compressor starts and takes mutch current there can form a spark and cause short-circuit.

:)

Matroesjka language , sounds like Smirnoff :o

jort 20th January 2005 16:25

pic of the compressor.
what you see is that i has 5 tubes.

1 service connection, 2 suction and 2 high press.
thats because the compressor was in a refrigerator with 2 evaporators.

this is the megger test what i was talking about.

;)

kristos 20th January 2005 16:36

What's that you say? dual evap? for your upcoming SLI fully phase changed rig? that's a wonderfull idea Jort!!

jort 20th January 2005 17:06

your sponsering my rig ? :D

jort 20th January 2005 17:57

don't judge my paint skillz.
should i put some text on it for better understanding?
i colored and put some comment ("click" on pic)

graka and cpu is also possible :D

Don't you have one with 7 tubes :D
cpu, GPU, en northbridge

jort 20th January 2005 18:26

lol :^D
i'll stick atm @ one evap.

it is possible to cool more components
but temps won't be that good anymore.

jort 26th February 2005 00:51

negative.
its not dual evap :(
its oil cooling:o

project on hold because lack on time.
when i can get a 2nd hand torch i can work @ home.
prolly starting a sales action of DI containers so the funds will cover the torch expenses and after that the is maybe an DD cooling ^:D

first i need to find that f**ing 2nd hand torch

jmke 26th February 2005 16:47

You poured liquid nitrogen down my spine
as you told me you didn't love me any more
and run off with the girl next door
You poured liquid nitrogen in my heart
and you told me it wouldn't hurt, what a liar
You promised you'd always be true

You said you'd be mine 12 months a year, 24 hours a day
You said I'd be yours each week my dear, until the end of time
But then you found her and you left me here
To cry and to run of tears
And now here I wait 12 months a year
But I'm hoping one day you'll come back and stay

You poured...

You said you'd be mine forever and ever, 5040 minutes a week
Except Christmas Day 'cause you go see your mother
(That's) 2800 less divided by 2
You said I'd be yours 30,240,000 seconds a year
Including leap years, which means 86,400 extra every four

You poured...

You said you'd be mine 3600 seconds an hour every day
Which in milliseconds that's 43,200 times 10 to the 3rd
You said I'd be yours 24 hours a day,
integrating until the end of time.
Now in nanoseconds that's just the square root
of 2670 billion times 10 to 90 divided by two

jort 28th February 2005 17:40

our belgium phase-changer keeps the market running.
(exept my bankflow decrease but hey do i give a ****?)

now i have this kit.

i can braze @ HOME.
tommorow i'll bring the compressor to my place.
i'll update asap.

Da_Priest 28th February 2005 20:53

price?
and where did you get it?

and as we say in izegem... "EN GOAN!!!"

grtz

jort 28th February 2005 20:54

in de hubo voor 109€

Da_Priest 28th February 2005 20:58

f*ckin quick reply that is

109€ is like... too much for me right now...:p

by the way, those oxygenbottles won't hold for long...
have red about them and ppl said they were empty in no time :s
but saw that they sell tanks of oxygen like that in the 'supra bazar', yet don't know the price...

let me know on how much you got to braze with that bottle eej

grtz

jort 28th February 2005 21:04

17€ for oxy and 7€ for propane.

oxy=>30min
prop=>2h50min

jort 1st March 2005 19:15

you if you get that vapo LS
can't let that happen now i am so close.

i am rushing because my wc a64 block seems taking very long(guy can't mill @ school because less time)

so i'll just make a cascade or something instead.
