Phase Change this! Mach I

I got myself a Prommy, nice bargain :)

Yesterday I started it up & lookie lookie some nice ice!

Today I have an Epox 8RDA (ctgilles) and a TbredB XP1700+ to play with.

I started of rolling the motherboard in a nice little package!

seems pretty decent :)

Now the evaphead installed

all ready to go ->

After bootup I went straight into the BIOS

CPU temp of 18°C that dropped after 10min tot 11°C
hmmm.. the Prometeia read -46°C

bad contact ->

No problem, following the guidelines on the prometeia website I put some extra spacers on each screw.. put it all back together

CPU temp of 9°C
hmmm still some spacers left.. I start screwing them tight again..

I'm just too damn powerfull :^D

luckily I have 1 spare screw (thankx to calantak)
might try it again later.. this night :)

TeuS 31st May 2003 13:31

you made a major mistake there
after you've mounted the evap for the first times, remove it to see whether it makes good contact. same stuff when mounting a new heatsink, you'd never know something goes wrong

(cf.: SLK800+coppershim doesn't make contact with die.
beki mounted his alpha for the first time. he didn't check it, and due to some rubber feet on the hs it didn't make contact either and the proc died)

btw: nice to see you going subzero :D

jmke 31st May 2003 13:47

well it's game over now, cause the screw is stuck

Quote:

Let it settle for a while, then unscrew and unmount the coolinghead again.
If the imprint of the core looks like on the picture here, the pressure is insufficient, and needs to be increased.

This is done by adding more spacers to the mounting screws, just below the screw head. Currently 5 spacer rings are placed as standard, but up to 4 or 5 extra spacers may prove to be optimal on your particular Prometeia Cooling system.
have to dissamble the whole lot, lateron

jmke 31st May 2003 14:25

cant wait that long

reinstalled, again 18°C
maybe it is the position of the head & the evap..

jmke 31st May 2003 14:44

cpu is @ 9°C in the bios after a couple of min. with vcore @ 2v

XP1700+@2500Mhz

200x12.5

can't get higher
how do I unlock the higher Multipliers?

is this the correct way to do so?

Quote:

Cut the 3rd and 5th bridge of L3 to unlock all the multys.

If i'm not mistaken you can cut them while *shortcircuiting* them. 5V + needles will do the trick.
call me stupid, but I find this page very confusing

Besides, it's way tooooo crowded if you wanted to go out :D

Unlucking all multi's is done as quoted. I saw that info on several websites, in different threads ... haven't done it yet, should be mucho simple.

jmke 31st May 2003 15:00

going to install the whole thing into my Chieftec, because I'm convinced the position of the head isn't optimal at all

I still have +0°C temps @ idle, with enough contact

TeuS 31st May 2003 15:22

to unlock higher multi's you'll have to wiretrick it (only multi's 13 and higher available!)

jmke 31st May 2003 15:42

When I'm able to obtain -0°C temps then using 13x will be no problemo

TeuS 31st May 2003 15:49

Changing an 8X Bit Value LO to a HI, to access 13X and higher from default Multipliers = 12.5X and lower.
Tbred's rightmost 5th L3 bridge will be Closed. Palomino's L10 bridge pair will be Closed/Open L to R.
General solution is to reset that signal circuit HI. Options:-
1:- Tbred, open the closed 5th L3 bridge.
2:- Palomino, change L10 bridge pair from Left/Right Closed/Open to Open/Closed.
3:- Tbred and Palomino, solder wire to socket AJ27, connect to Vcore thru 100 ohm resistor, (remotely switch/toggle).
4:- Tbred and Palomino, connect AJ27 socket hole and nearby AH26 Vcc/Vcore socket hole with fine wire u-loop, replace CPU. Or connect the "bases" of socket pins AJ27 and AH26 with conductive ink.
Note risk of accidental Vcore short circuit since no current limiting resistor as in 3:- above. See socket/pins pics for all locations above.

an more expensiver solution: by an NF7-S and get higher with al the mult's

greetz

piotke 31st May 2003 17:42

I have an NF7-s, and had an 1800+ Tbred B

but nu multi above 12.5 was unlocked....

The Senile Doctor 31st May 2003 18:03

prommy + amd usually gets higher temps/positive temps due to smaller die surface => you lose about 60% of your cooling power

intel : you freeze the entire heatspreader : effect is way higher

Gamer 31st May 2003 18:18

your temps are way to high.
didn't you use to much sealingtape ?
I use one layer, no probs with condensation.

Da_BoKa 31st May 2003 22:43

WTF?? normaly with an nf7 you get al the multi's, you are the first one who doesn't has al the multi's
did you flash the latest bios??

greet

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 00:09

I think you got some things confused.
Even with Tbred-nForce combo there is a HARDWARE lock on multipliers.

If the default multiplier is 12.5 or lower, that's all you can get, if it's 13 or higher that those are your selections.

It can be broken by either connecting or disconnection the lead between 2 pins.
Disconnection is mostly done by cooking a few second on 5V

jmke 1st June 2003 00:30

thanks for summing up everything that was mentioned in the thread freestyler :p :p

@Gamer: I think it has to do with the placement of the motherboard, as it is not in a case, I think there isn't enough pressure on the DIE due to wrong positioning of the head

gonna be a ***** to install in the chieftec & hook it up, as I don't have room.. anywhere to put that big thing :/

Da_BoKa 1st June 2003 10:27

now i'm pretty sure that on an nforce2 ( like 8rda ) you only get the multi's untill 12.5

when you have an nf7 you receive al the multi's, here you have an example ( BTW ask illusion, because that is the reason he bought an nf7-s ) http://www.overclocking.be/forum/sho...&threadid=7450

and look at the multi in the screen

greetz

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 11:33

like I said there are ways around it, and again comming back, but it's not really efficient.

jmke 1st June 2003 12:04

seems the temps I'm getting are pretty normal

too bad the boards craps out @ 200Mhz FSB, dont want to push too much volt through the VDD

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 12:50

put some H²O on it and the mosfets and the voltage regulators.
While you're at it, better cool the southbridge with it too.

TeuS 1st June 2003 13:03

JMke isn't able to watercool right now, he even hasn't got place for that prommie :/

putting some large heatsinks on the chippies / SB is a good idea yeah :)

easypanic 1st June 2003 13:26

hmmmmzz

with my prommie and an RDA i also had temps of 0-10°C @ 2V, it's a normal temp @ that V on an RDA

sure, whatever , the extra cost for the H²0 will surely make up for that 10-20mhz extra on the FSB

unlocking the AXP is what I'm gonna do :p

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 14:09

then why did you get a prommy (even bargain it has to have it's serious price)
I'm running 200FSB without VDD mod just some heatsinks ofmy mosfets.
It does stabilize and increase temps a bit.

Totaly off topic, what's the preferred size for images on the fora?
got some of mine.

jmke 1st June 2003 14:19

800x600 compressed with JPG ~70%

ontopic: unlock multi
set it to 13.5x200

wanna see you do it on aircooling =)
the board needed to replace an older Abit KR7A

around August I either get me a P2.4C with Asus P4P800 or some bargain v2.0 NF7-S :)

note: this system is PURE for amusement, it is not used for anything besides benchmarks. so putting too much money in it will not pay of for me =)

OFF TOPIC:

Rule of thumb = cost of movieticket
movieticket = 5,50 EUR for 90 minutes

Prommy will give you OC-pleasure and installation for the next 2 to 3 years. Let's say you install and play with it for about 4,5 hours every month, for 3 years. Your budget would be 594 EUR.

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 14:57

movieticket ?? ==> divx

owke so prommy aint illegal ...
wasn't that supposed to double the fun of it ...

anyway, if you wanna have fun, have some water.

The lifespan of a prommy is only till the next upgrade with incompatible mouning systems.
There is only one reason to do it. It's ****ing cool. (pun intended)

just a side not, are there prommy's for brain cooling too? My CPU runs fine at 46°C, I don't.

the prom was designed so it would work with any future mounting system, that's why it works with kits. when AMD releases the opteron they'll just bring out an opteron kit ;)

your opinion, not mine

jmke 1st June 2003 15:52

darn CPU craps out @ 2380Mhz with 2v vcore :/

on air it did 2192Mhz with 2v

jmke 1st June 2003 16:26

Coming for ya Piotke :^D

TeuS 1st June 2003 17:00

what brand is it?

the beer is mine, remember!

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 17:49

mine's doing 2200 on air @ 1.725V core,
silent air might I add.

and was there a post deleted here, feels like I'm missing something.

nothing deleted, just some insiders jokes :)

TNT2 M64 challenge, he who beats Piotkes score gets a free crate of beer :)

piotke 1st June 2003 18:37

to bad I sold my 1800+

would have borrowed it you....

did 2.5 Ghz on 1.9 Vcore, aircooled....

edit, currently I'm having 1681 3d marks with tnt2...

how much you ?

jmke 1st June 2003 18:38

2400 3dmark stable now
but nowhere near impressive
and the TNT2 is GPU limited, the extra CPU power doesn't give any extra points

piotke 1st June 2003 18:41

2400 my ***, compare url, must be bugged run, I also had such runs... Huge framerates in car an dragonatic...

idd, I had maybe 5 points more with 2.5 Ghz in stead of 2 Ghz

FreeStyler 1st June 2003 18:45

nah, it's just driver optimalizations ....

and another off-topic, shrimp's down, want to upload my pics.

Nvidia has optimized their latest drivers to give the TNT2 a leading edge over the competition.

Hehe, lol. :D

Seriously, those bogus +2000 runs are without artifacts?
