overkill WC

last year i ordered 2 dual heat transformers,
but i hadn't any real plans on how to use them.
so i thought that it would be a challenge to get them working together 'in' one case.
thus, i ordered a chieftec dragon maxi because it's quite deep, and has a very solid finish.

by now it's almost finished, but i thought i'd share this with you anyways.

since i was going to use 2 radiators, i was limited in options,
keep in mind, this is no 'looks' mod,
so after some measuring this is what i ended up whith:

and the inside

next up was a recervoir
an old tupperware bowl, some stuff from the local plumber shop, and lots of silicone later:

and fitted into the case:

i totally screwed up the hole to fill the recercoir, so i used a little piece of 'traanplaat' too clean that up:

forgot image :)

the fans on the rads will be on 7V, so i made a little fanbus:

I have 2 double rads myself, friend :hello:
(a heattransformer and a bix2 :D)

and placed inside the case:

overkill is fun :D

i always want to give my case a personal touch, and thus i've cut something out of the frount bezel (my own design)
i used the same technique as in that howto i've wrote some time ago (knive, nail-file, etc.).

jakkerd 2nd February 2004 19:07

added some color:

jakkerd 2nd February 2004 19:12

started to install the tubing:
tygon (R-3603) 1/2" (12mm inside, 20mm outside)
and 15mm copper ellbows, just to be sure it wouldn't restrict waterflow too much.
pump is a Hydor L30 Compact Design 1200l/h.

jakkerd 2nd February 2004 19:12

had to improvise a bit, but it seems to be watertight

jakkerd 2nd February 2004 19:16

now i only have to find a 20mm bore to cut the final holes.
i have some time to go shopping tomorrow, so i geuss that it should be done by the end of the week.

jakkerd 2nd February 2004 19:25

in case anyone is wondering:
intake is 5* 80mm papst ngml @12V
outtake is 4* 120mm papst fgl @ 7V
WB is a slit edge thingie :):

jakkerd 3rd February 2004 19:05

didn't had the time to go shopping, so i fixed some fan filters.
don't want dust clogging up my rads.
i had to cut them up a bit to make them fit, doesn't look to bad me thinks.
i know that there are 2 diffirent kinds, but i got them really cheap, so you don't hear me complaining :)

jakkerd 3rd February 2004 19:07

forgot pic again :wtf:

Vulk 3rd February 2004 19:09

Wow, really overkill. Why don't you also cool your graka and northbridge with it?

jakkerd 3rd February 2004 19:30

graka will follow soon, but my funds are down at the moment :s
nb is cooled with a zalman sink at the moment

Gamer 3rd February 2004 19:47

nice, keep up the good work.

Tum0r 3rd February 2004 21:16

Looks indeed good :o

I'm thinking of making my own waterjackets based on the white water. Will be using a lathe ... hoping that it will work out and I might sell some blocks

jakkerd 4th February 2004 19:18

today is a good day :)
finished the tubing today
not the prettiest solution, but it works

i need water first :)
and i wan't to thouroughly test it on leaks

Tum0r 4th February 2004 19:28

Why not placing the rads with there in/outlets inside the case?
What rads are they? Nice housing btw ,looks great

not enough room :)
i can put one in the top panel, but then i wouldn't have room for the second rad.

jakkerd 5th February 2004 18:59

testing :D

jmke 5th February 2004 19:17

user the newspaper instead of those kleenex's if you want to look for leaks

the newspaper will show you marks where there was water even if it dries up. Things you are using now will absorb the water and hardly leave a trace, making it hard to find out where the leak came from.

jakkerd 5th February 2004 19:25

tx for the tip, changes are made :D

FreeStyler 5th February 2004 22:50

or make some cobalt chloride paper.
It changes colorwhen wet. And unless you're in a warm dry room, it will stay that way for some time.

jakkerd 6th February 2004 16:12

allright, it's up and running
but not how it's supposed to

cpu temp goes up to 51° (11*200, 1.8V) :s
this sucks

already reseated WB, contact with cpu is ok

TeuS 6th February 2004 16:15

:(

two radiators in series give a huge pressure drop. try to put them in parallel

monitor your water temps and water flow if possible

jakkerd 6th February 2004 16:24

second pump maybe?
because that was the original idea
