old case -> new look

old case, el cheapo full tower
looked like this:

frontplate:

front:

back:

jakkerd 14th March 2004 20:10

the case will have a blank metal look,
sanded down until all the paint is gone
polish it a little
and then a protective lacker , giving it a nice shine :)
front will be sprayed in silver or gray, or whatever color that fits the metal.

to give u an idea of the 'style', everything will be finished whith these style grils:

Gamer 14th March 2004 20:23

let's hope you can make something out of it :)

TerAngreal 14th March 2004 20:24

neato kind of industrial effect, but not as efficient as 'open' blowholes ...

i know, but it's just for fancy looks, there will be more then enough airflow
and will only be used on lans, so it can be louder than a normal case

jakkerd 15th March 2004 19:42

backside tends to de done :):

i found a bigger piece, top panel and front will be cut from this:

jmke 15th March 2004 19:54

I would suggest making a look-a-like cover for the PSU also :)

TeuS 15th March 2004 20:10

nice grills!

i have a spare piece that could do the trick.
i'll look into that :)

IKilledMyAGOIA 16th March 2004 02:20

very unique

makes me think "furnace" when i see it because of the grills, but hopefully the temps will be good ;)

jakkerd 17th March 2004 19:17

didn't do much today, wired some fans, gave'm some grills

jakkerd 17th March 2004 19:18

jmke 17th March 2004 19:31

WIP als in WIPzaag had ik verstaan :p

jakkerd 17th March 2004 19:33

just discovered a pretty neat feature:

jakkerd 18th March 2004 17:25

top grill is almost done:

front still needs lots of work:

jmke 18th March 2004 17:26

"wiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
is the sound of air passing through those grills :p

jakkerd 18th March 2004 17:50

watch me care :p

jakkerd 21st March 2004 16:23

did some grunt work today
all the paint is gone
next weekend i'll start polishing, maybe a little sooner if i feel like it :)

jmke 21st March 2004 16:35

don't forget some nice coating, otherwise it will start corroding.

+ it will give an extra nice shine

jakkerd 23rd March 2004 19:14

bought some junk today

jmke 23rd March 2004 19:27

hide that junk nicely away and it will look good :)
make it not too flashy though

TeuS 23rd March 2004 19:48

CCFL's?

yeah they're not only trash, they're out-fashioned. get rid of them asap ;)

jakkerd 23rd March 2004 19:54

you're all too kind ;)

[Bonbon] 23rd March 2004 20:12

where are you gonna put the new duvel logo :) ?

jakkerd 23rd March 2004 20:32

first paint it, and then back where it came from
very pimp that way :)

IKilledMyAGOIA 24th March 2004 04:57

those grills are tight as hell, i saw one at the hardware store, two of which would make a sweet replacement side panel for my suitcase pc

jakkerd 24th March 2004 20:50

connected the fans, solderd some ccfl's, and putted aluminum fronts on the cd-drives
phillips writer needed some heavy modding, but eventually it fits :)

Da_BoKa 24th March 2004 22:12

nice, i like it

IKilledMyAGOIA 25th March 2004 04:47

what do you use to cut the aluminum vent panels?

i found some nice ones i'd like to use in a mod im working on, but i have to remove a big center portion to make it fit, and tinsnips f-ed my spare panel and the jig looks as if it will destroy them

dremeled?

piotke 25th March 2004 06:06

and were did you buy these coolermaster fronts ?

IKilledMyAGOIA 25th March 2004 08:50

i tried out my grilles and i got nice solid whoosh, probably wouldnt be as bad if i took out the mesh on the inside, but since this will be travelling around a good bit

but, after checking it out, with a setup on either side with the grille and a wire fan guard, the air output was normal, and no audible fan stressing sounds could be detected (indicating poor airflow)

jakkerd 25th March 2004 16:51

aluminum tools:
:D

and a small drill if i have to start in the center of a piece

jakkerd 28th March 2004 14:58

change of plans
polishing is not going to work
or at least, not as i want it to
so, front is painted in chrome, tuesday it'll get a turtle wax treatment
the side panels will get the same treatment
i'm quite curious on how this will turn out.
fingers crossed ;)

jakkerd 29th March 2004 19:08

spray paint part is finished
it needs a turtle wax treatment, but it's looking pretty good, better than i thought
pic of the front gives u an idea of the actual color, allthough it looks better irl (other pics give a totally wrong impression)

jmke 29th March 2004 20:39

"hanging your case out to dry" , never heard of that one before ;)
