modding the wavemaster

pictures say more than words

but I think I gonna say something. The idea is to replace 3 noisy 80mm fans by 1 noisy and 1 silent 120mm fan.

The back is "unmodable" only if I remake tha backplate, but I don't have inough skills to do that. So I desided to replace the 2 front fans by one enermax on low speed and in some occasions at full speed. I also bought a revoltec 120 ledfan darkbleu. thats to replace the top fan. Because the standard mounting of the topfan causes much vibration I decided to replace it by a low speed fan which is placed better.

I also gonna replace the front leds by a 10cm ccfl but thats for later.

Now I allready have replaced the front fans :D It was much more work than I expected, but the result is :o .

Enjoy

link to full casemod (changed)

btw: notice that I also have made some "sfeerbeelden" of my room. :D

"don't look at the spelling errors, but mods be free to correct them :D"

I need a fanfaurd before I continue. I also bought a 2x10cm ccfl kit but it didn't arrived yet.

you can see I'm a simpson fan :D. But you didn't saw my posters yet :D And my door. :)

kristos 12th October 2004 00:10

the ccfl cut out seems like a cool idea :)

kr15t0f 17th October 2004 22:29

today I did this :). 2 switches for my ccfl's.

I made a scratch, but I fixed it with a small casebadge :D.

one of these days my dual ccfl 10cm kit will arrive and I can attach my ccfl's on the switches.

For the moment I quit because I need a fanguard. When I got that fanguard I can make the top cutout. Then I only need to finish some details like dustfilters etc and its finished.

BTW, I got some temps results.

before mod
---------------

CPU 48°C 100% load 1.68V 2400Mhz
front 2x titan 80mm full speed
back 1x titan 80mm full speed
top 1x titan 80mm full speed.
sidepanel 1x revoltec 80mm full speed
CPU 1x enermax 92mm full speed

VERY noisy :(

After mod
-------------

CPU 45°C 100% load 1.68V 2400Mhz
front 1x enermax 120mm 1450rpm (low speed)
back 1x titan 80mm low speed
top no fan atm
sidepanel 1x revoltec 80mm full speed (this fan is complete silent, so no need to control its speed)
CPU 1x enermax 92mm medium speed.

very silent ;) I don't think I have to mod the motherboard tray to fit 2x80mm in it :cheer:

edit: I only need to find some other place to put my hdd led

edit2: made the picture smaller

kr15t0f 26th October 2004 18:57

dual ccfl kit arrived today :cheer:

whhen I removed the plastic stuff around the ccfl I saw that there was a small wire leading from one end of the ccfl to the other. I think it would give a nice effect if I would shorten it with my case, so I beter isolate it :D . Somebody has an idea how to do that? Just with normal tape? And how should I attach it in thet front thing. Just with glue?

Sharpside 27th October 2004 17:56

With "vernis" or clear paint or somthin, dunno if it can take the heat tho :)

kr15t0f 27th October 2004 18:40

front ccfl installed effect is :o

mod is almost finished. Have to install top fan and cable the ccfl's and it's finito for the next X weeks :D

kr15t0f 11th November 2004 19:16

sorry.http://users.pandora.be/kr15t0fke/casemod%20page.html

UPDATE!!!

told jort at occ that I want to change my sidepanels.
Whell, I started yesterday.

And I also fixed the problem with having no hdd led :D

I putted a led in the housing of a 10cm ccfl (my front ccfl).
First I tried a normal blue led, but I coulnd't see it if my ccfl was on, so I changed it with a white led ( bought it from blue-bore :super: )

EDIT: text is still in dutch, sorry.http://users.pandora.be/kr15t0fke/casemod%20page.html

go for the white leds:super:

ps: i now a place to order some very cheap leds;)

kr15t0f 26th December 2004 13:07

some new pictures of today :super:

The cut-out isn't finished, I have to do some vile work, and then I can start with the cuting of the small alu parts.

jort 26th December 2004 13:14

wow, that cutout is very nicely done ;)

jmke 26th December 2004 13:25

chapeau :super:

edit: btw that cutout looks AMAZING:o

well done (there are still some true modders on the field) ;)

jmke 28th December 2004 15:07

looking forward to dual CCFL action, the cutout looks :o

kristos 28th December 2004 17:24

hockey team or ice hockey team? it's been a while so the symbol doesn't mean much to me (uit het oog, uit het hart ;))

@ maro and completely offtopic but did you know you share your name with a memory program and would you by any chance happen to have it or have a link for it?

roller hockey ;)

kr15t0f 30th December 2004 17:41

today I tested what would be best, LED's or dual ccfl, the answer is dual ccfl.

Now I have to find a shop that sells white ccfls.

kr15t0f 6th January 2005 18:43

** UPDATE **

today I continued on my mod.

first I cuted a new piece of plexi for my left sidepanel and pasted it with some tec7

as you can see I've chosen to use a fan in my sidepanel. The hole doesn't seem to be round in the pics. But in reality it is almost round.

After that I decided to clean my room :D and I found a coolermaster blue LED fan. I remember removing them because the blue light wasn't bright at all. But for some reason I had an idea I never had before. In the following pics you can see that the titan alu fan leaves a dark spot in my case.

dark isn't it ;)
But I can't fix it with this fan :D

lights on

lights out

from left to right: coolermaster fan/ revoltec 120mm fan in toppanel/ revoltec 80mm fan (sidepanel)

man, that coolermaster fan sucks :(

The idea is to make the leds shine a bit (lot) more

removed all the wires

and the mod is finished :D .
All the pics of the mod in progress failed :^D :^D :^D
My modded fan is compaired with an unmodded one. :o what a difference.

In the dark, my modded fan is actually lighting up my unmodded fan :D

and again compaired to the other fans in my case.
from left to right: coolermaster fan/120mm fan revoltec (toppanel)/80mm fan revoltec sidepanel
Now the coolermaster is the brightest :ws:

and this is my desk after the mod (too clean :grum: )

And now, the moment you all been waiting for

I also cleaned my keyboard :cheer: :king: :ws:  :feesten:

edit: I ordered some white ccfl's at D-force. :super:

Gamer 6th January 2005 18:50

I think you used to much TEC7 ;)
nice keyboard btw.

nice work.

jort 6th January 2005 18:57

don't think so otherwise his plexi w'll fall off "again":^D

:^D

@gamer, keyboard is 2.5 years old. yesterday it was yellow, today it is white :D

the reason I cleaned it is not because I think it was to dirty, but because I spilled a glass of 7-up on it :D.

jmke 6th January 2005 19:42

I cleaned my whole desk, keyboard, mouse, 2*TFT screens, Hifi, floor, chair and a bunch of clothes this weekend.

I opened a limonda bottle of 3L on my desk after I shook it a bit too hard, a small volcano erupting, nice effect, less fun aftermath
