Lucky Number 7? I'll find out :)

You'll get one of these babies:

Stock heatsink is pretty decent affair, cooling for GPU with good silver putty

My core apparently is a G73-VZ-N-B1(?) ;)

the memory is from Samsung, DDR3, 32Mb per chip

K4J55323QG-BC12
http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semi...K4J55323QG.htm
Rated for 800MHz / 1.6Ghz (DDR)

Let the fun & modding begin!

blind_ripper 17th June 2007 14:26

bro what sort off mounting holes ?
nice looking card for its price ;)

jmke 17th June 2007 14:29

what sort of the mounting holes? the round ones, 4 of them;)

Cranox 17th June 2007 14:34

I hope this card gives me more fun then my crappy 6600 ( that without vmods oc like crap ) ;)

97.44 drivers doesn't recognize the card, had to use the one from the driver cd, version 93.81

Stock clocks are GPU: 500 // MEM: 747. Quite a bit better than the 7300GT 256Mb DDR2 card, that one has stock GPU: 350 // MEM: 333.

Massman 17th June 2007 15:14

Stock sucks, give us the first OC numbers

jmke 17th June 2007 15:31

I find that stock rules :) I've finished my tests earlier this weekend PNY 7300GT DDR2 vs 8500GT, with 8500GT having overall lead over 7300GT is mostly all benches, only when 7300GT was OC'ed (stock 350, oc: 510, mem stock 333, oc 350... :/) it caught up with 8500GT at stock, once 8500GT was overclocked, gap widened nicely (max oc on 8500GT 702 (stock: 459) core, 470 mem (stock 400)... yah also DDR2 on that one it seems).

7300GT DDR3 scores on par (slightly better) at stock , than 8500GT at stock; will be interesting to see how they will match up when both are overclocked =)

Massman 17th June 2007 15:34

702 core without even pushing it? Me thinks that 85gt + vmod + dice/cascade/ln² = 1GHz core :)

jmke 17th June 2007 15:39

ya they are not bad, but overclock same as other G80 cards, with jumps, 27Mhz in this case; pencil vmods: http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?p=3834415

he mentions getting to 880Mhz GPU, not correct, it'll be 891 or 864

Massman 17th June 2007 15:42

you should give the pencil mods a go, it seems that the card's core scales well when upping the Vgpu.

Geoffrey: do you know how to alter the bios in order to get rid of the 27MHz. jumps?

jmke 17th June 2007 15:53

this is a topic about 7300 series, 8500GT is already packed and ready to be send back to PNY! :)

and so I called him Blackie, and Blackie he shall be!

jmke 17th June 2007 17:16

Here's a little quirk:

Stock 500/747 = 28105 3DMark01

GPU OC 660 = 29706 3DMark01
GPU OC 670 = 29703 3DMark01

MEM OC 900 = 28859 3DMark01

GPU/MEM OC 668/954 29771 3DMark01
GPU/MEM OC 666/954 30775 3DMark01

Higher GPU clocks... lower score? Temp throttle kicking in? GPU at 60°C max

Massman 17th June 2007 17:32

That's just the CL game test variable :)

jmke 17th June 2007 17:33

1000 points variable? repeatable everything time you increase GPU clock slightly over 670, performance drops? .... I'm not convinced:)

Massman 17th June 2007 17:43

Every time you set over 670? It could be the heat, but 60°C isn't really hot. I do remember when I had my pair of 73gt's I had problems with drops too.

Maybe you should change drivers ?

Edit: the CL variable can indeed NOT be 1000pts as that should result in a difference of 100fps in one game test. Not really likely at those speeds ;)

Pardons 17th June 2007 18:15

god dammit!
that's a small card i hope my copper chunk wil fitt lol :naughty:

re-read post #5 on that one:)

kick up the pci-e bus up by 10mhz will u :p

jmke 17th June 2007 19:29

nope, today is not OC bench day :)

3DMark2001SE Bench Settings:

First (very not final OC, very untweaked) result: 666/954: 122.3FPS
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9216308

(doh! CPU speed is too high, sorry :/ lol)

piotke 17th June 2007 20:11

What setup are you using ?

jmke 17th June 2007 20:15

E6400 / BadAxe

edit: DOH! Have to downclock CPU, will be for later this week :)

piotke 17th June 2007 20:17

aha ! You little cheater ;-)

jmke 17th June 2007 20:21

3DMark03 detects CPU mark & model, so you can verify it there. Running that one now, and will show screenie of settings to be used.

blah, Gamer used Madshrimps' 3DMark03 key for benchmarks some years ago, linked to his profile, can't submit online :/ yet... mail send to Futuremark with list of participants, you should get an email with key soon.

here are the settings for 3D03:

later is now! bad axe FSB set to 1333, Negative FSB of 10%, result is:

Yeah baby!

jmke 17th June 2007 21:31

First result with correct CPU speed:)

3DMark2001SE
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9216332
GPU: 666 / MEM: 954 : 119.2 FPS
with stock clocks (500/747): 91.1 FPS

3Dmark03
(verification URL to follow)
GPU: 666 / MEM: 954 : 47.7 FPS
with stock clocks (500/747): 39.9 FPS

overall score would be:
GPU: 666 / MEM: 954 : 83,45
with stock clocks (500/747): 65,5

geoffrey 17th June 2007 22:15

I know **** about BIOS mods massman, I'm not a programmer :)

I don't think there is any temp throttle here. With the 6800GT sometimes scores would fall back few points too without knowing the reason. Maybe it's just caused by instability. On the other hand, it's been a while since I last had some fun with my 6800, I can't remember it that well :s

blind_ripper 18th June 2007 07:20

the only guy i know that can fix this life's in finland for god sacke :p .
il see if i can contact colin ;)

Massman 18th June 2007 18:07

I like your card, JMke. 666 gpu is nice for stock cooling :)

Cranox 18th June 2007 18:32

Hmm 666 , this card is devlish i tell U :D

OW J., don't do it this way ;)

1333 strap is quite a bit slower than 1066 strap. Just put the darn thing on 1066 + 25% :)

jmke 20th June 2007 14:32

define "quite a bit slower" in a GPU benchmark?

ok then, why don't you bench with your old Athlon 64 :D

Memory access is about 15% slower with 1333 strap. Differences will be small, but noticeable I think (why don't you find out ;) )

jmke 20th June 2007 14:40

later this week, I'll find out:)
LOD tweak gives nice boost too btw;)
