Height & width no problem ... but debt

As i've moved, my pc and desk is moved into a wardrobe closet/chest/furniture from IKEA. Yeah, yeah, ... very funny. I bet you don't have kids running around that will actually demolish everything in their path. And besides, i adjusted everything myself and it's actually a good workplace.
Problem is that the "free" depth of the closet is max 55cm. I now have a Chieftec of 47cm and it only fits sideways because i need about 10cm for the cords that stick out (for example: ati 8500dv + adapter + monitor connector).
I need a new case and i was looking for the "undeepest" case. After some looking around i found this absolutely breathtaking beauty. Only 42cm deep ! And just look at it: plenty of room, great looks (if you choose aquamarine), removeable mobo tray, stunning airflow, ... and all that for less then 100 EUR, 300W PSU incl. !

Might have to paint it ... a little.
Might have to make a blowhole ... small one ... here and there.
Might as well install a decent watercooling in it as i have soooo much space to play with.
Might take some time to finish.

Maybe you know some "undeep" cases as well and spare me some precious time :D

I have an HQ08 that I might want to "trade" for the chieftec ;)

TeuS 13th May 2003 04:52

the newer model of the HQ08, the H700 are out :)
way better airflow!

I think you overlooked the main issue here.

Dimensions: 18.7"(D)x7.87"(W)x24.61"(H) / 475mm(D)x200mm(W)x625mm(H)

jASjE 13th May 2003 15:04

depth? :)

gona tell you tomorow ;)

jmke 13th May 2003 20:36

Bosw8er how about the trade? ;)

Bosw8er 13th May 2003 20:55

This thread is not about trading, it's about undeep cases :D
... Duron, where the hell are you ?

The chieftec is going to be used for my workbox, currently housed in a HX45.

... and that HX45 is going to house all the leftovers i have for yet another folder.

jmke 13th May 2003 20:58

thanks for the response :)
if you are going to take the HQ/HX08 then be prepared for some dremel-action between the moterboard compartement and the 5"25 bays, as the default space is too narrow to allow ANY air to pass, even without the IDE cables

I thought you were joking the first time you wanted to trade.

Dremel is for sissi's, i use a professional hacksaw (on an unprofessional way of course). One 120 mm at the front bottom, two 80mm at the top-back, ... only have to make 1 hole. Or i could place a koolance on top :D

Talking about narrow, try fitting in 3 HD + Floppy + 2 CD + casefans in the Chieftec DX-01W. No room left and too hot if you like silent pc's like i do. I'm happy it runs at 51°C stressed. Changing the mobo takes 1,5 hours as you have to remove everything.

jmke 13th May 2003 22:45

The chieftec midi tower is a little bit smaller then the Chieftec, got 6 HD's in there + CD / Floppy =)

some room left still for 1 CDrom, great cooling, but is deeper I think

Glad to see you still have your Korean-English typing skillz :D

Koolance Exos dimensions looks OK
Product Dimensions
WxHxD 7.25" 3.75" 18.5" (18.4cm x 9.5cm x 47cm)

jmke 13th May 2003 22:55

working on some things for Sunday, takes up most of typing skillz :)

Aha, a easy solution.
Puzzeled why dealer sells at lower price then the manufacturer.

http://www.kmelektronik.de/root/shop...hop4/b4-37.htm

jmke 14th May 2003 00:45

the prices you see on the webpages are the final ones. The dealer prices are alot lower, the Silentmaxx.de core bizz isn't selling as a webshop, KM.de = yes

maybe they bought a big lot of those Black cases at a low price =)

Bosw8er 14th May 2003 01:07

Looks like a good solution.
Case is not expensive, looks sturdy, has a removeable mobo-tray, room for 4 80mm casefans, depth is OK, no modding or extra's required and should be silent according to 4 "big" german PC-magazines.

Buttugly though

I noticed two versions. One with 2 fan holes on the removeable mobo-tray and one with 1 fan hole at that position.

I'll do some measuring tonight to see if the 2,5 cm depth-difference with the current Chieftec is sufficient to put it in the furniture straight. If it's OK i'll order one.

As there are more fans and as this case is higher i presume the airflow and temps will be better then that of the Chieftec. Even if the dampening mats will increase that temperature.

GiantKiller 14th May 2003 13:19

@Bows8er
Why don't you build your pc into the wardrobe without a case ?
Put some noise pads at the bottom, side and back, cut some plexi at size for the front (removeable), drill a hole into the back for your cables and psu airflow out.
I did this in my desk. Works fine.

Bosw8er 14th May 2003 13:39

@BigmacKiller

Cannot drill in wardrobe, period. It has to be in a case, selfmade or not.
Already done "building my own pc-furniture", with succes.

I regret not having the time to customize it completely.

Bosw8er 26th May 2003 22:30

Crappy movie of nice sliding panel.

jmke 26th May 2003 22:35

looks very decent & the sound muffling material in the door looks :super:

the sliding frontdoor is :gay: :p

Yep, think so too (would have liked doors opening Lamborghini -style :D )... but ... i haven't seen it before.

Bosw8er 2nd June 2003 21:29

Just unpacked everything and took a look at the new toys.

- cut myself at the sharp edges of the case
- discouvered there aren't any holes in my ati 8500 ... although i was so convinced i didn't even look it up ... zalman hp anyone ?

Luckily the Tiger panel seems to be value for money

TeuS 2nd June 2003 21:32

use thermal adhesive to mount the zalman. keep in mind, removing it afterwards is NOT an option :/

Bosw8er 2nd June 2003 21:44

I have artic silver adhesive, which is perfect for ramsink usage ... i doubt it would hold something heavy like zalman hp ... and there's no option to use it at the back of the card as there's nothing to "adhesive" it to.

Bummer, that ati-fan was the noisiest bugger in my system.

TeuS 2nd June 2003 21:47

a big heatsink and a 60mm fan @ low RPM should do :)

Bosw8er 2nd June 2003 21:53

What weight does the adhesive hold ?

Is it considered as "super glue" ?

Plenty of room, all pci-slots are free :D

Remember the card is a 500 EUR DV-card.

TeuS 2nd June 2003 21:58

adhesive holds vewwwy tight
used it for the very first time when I mounted a blorb on my GF2MX, but I didn't notice one of the feet were in the way of the AGP port. so I pushed it reallly hard so it would fit into the AGP port (but it couldn't, a piece of the blorb was in the way)

when I finally realized what was the problem, I was amazed how strong this stuff was
if you want to be able to remove the HS later, use some superglue; the tiny core of my TNT2M64 alreade bore a dragon orb of 500 grams :D

try something like this:

Bosw8er 2nd June 2003 22:05

Hmmm, have a alpha 6045 laying around ... but no silent 60mm fans i think ... will delve in my archive tomorrow.

Or just wait to see if the Silentmaxx absorbs the noise.

Plugged in two different 90mm YS-tech fans. The -most silent- 49CFM version is already more noisy than the ati-cooler fan.

Bosw8er 4th June 2003 00:58

First it sounded like this:

http://www.madshrimps.be/upload/Boss/old.MPG

Now, after 4 hours of Laurel and Hardy construction, it sounds like this (with a more powerful and noisier fan (*))

http://www.madshrimps.be/upload/Boss/new.MPG

(*) and with another proc :(

jmke 4th June 2003 01:21

a tight fit!

jmke 4th June 2003 01:21

damn this is a waste of a good CPU :--/

EVIL thermaltake Spacer!

TerAngreal 4th June 2003 07:46

would that be an 50 or 80HP model?

jmke 4th June 2003 08:34

80HP
