A64 3000+ overclocking....

got all my stuff, but problems are already here.
first installed windows and stuff.
first i tried oc'ing with clockgen because its easy and....
but when i hit 2000mhz, pc crached:grum:
so i tought maybe its an bad bios ....
so i flashed it, and suddenly after 2 reboots couldn't load windows anymore.
save made works, going to install windows again tomorrow.
but what i find very weird is that i tried 225 fsb on stock vcore and on 1.45V and it was not stable.(stock bios and other)
my p4 worked with stock vcore @ 3.3ghz
pentium is not the same like amd but still:(

going to install everything back tomorrow and flash my bios back, its 1.36 modded version now.

pff

"but when i hit 3000mhz, pc crached"

so you're complaining that your 1st try at 3ghz A64 power failed? tss ;)

what mobo?

jort 12th January 2005 22:40

damn i meat 2ghz :p

srry, still the pentiumclocks in my head :^D

ps: msi k8n neo2 platinum

jort 13th January 2005 16:30

ignore my first post,
came home pc booted normal.
went oc'ing with a fresh mind.
got 2.7 ghz and 2.8 is max on air so far(maybe after some tweaking)
memory is maxed out because i cant get 2.85+V on it:((p4 went too 3V :D)
so i'll have to whait for gskill now.

superpi 33sec :D

jmke 13th January 2005 17:06

what memory are you using?

with that GSKILL then you might get better results with 2.8 or 2.75v

2.9-3.1v will LOWER performance.

jort 13th January 2005 17:15

ocz pc 3500 gold rev3
idd gskill is for next week.
btw running@ 2.65 stock vcore :D(and stock cooling offcourse  )

jort 13th January 2005 17:30

screen, more to follow

Hope that's on your memory :D

jort 13th January 2005 18:56

no, 2.65ghz, stock vcore(1.4v), stock cooling, vdimm=>2.85v,

wutske 13th January 2005 18:59

almost tought you were boosting it with 2.65V

jort 13th January 2005 22:15

think its stable isn't it :p
(srry about the vcore, didn't saw that)
but hey after all its good not?:D

i'll try now @ 2.7

Da_BoKa 13th January 2005 22:24

is that ocz tccd?

didn't knew that!

jort 13th January 2005 22:27

nope hynix

gskill is tccd
and rev2 ocz too i think

mem is @ 245 mhz here(srry forgot that screen)

edit:
new screenie :ws:

Da_BoKa 13th January 2005 22:53

I tought so!

Hanif 14th January 2005 04:12

what did you set your mem mhz in teh bios to? mine is at 166mhz..i get better stability with 133mhz tho

Hanif 14th January 2005 04:39

also what did u guys set your HT to in the bios? 4x or 3x?

Da_BoKa 14th January 2005 07:08

tell us first what ram do you have?

set the LTD so that the htt stays under the 1000 mhz

Desert Eagle 14th January 2005 11:16

Nice results allready Jort! ;)

Keep us informed.

i have to put my mem @ 133 when i run 2.8 because my ram max out then(because of the low vdimm, if i had 3V i could put 265 out of it) maybe ocz booster but gskill is coming so doesn't make sence

jort 14th January 2005 20:53

making my rig ready for another oc'ing shot.
opened my window, its about 3° outside and currently 10.3° inside my room.:D

goal is 2.9 ghz, prolly not going to make it but hey its worth the try

edit=> 8.4:super:

Hanif 15th January 2005 04:25

jort, what did you set your HT to? I have mine set at 4x ... with my mem clock at 166mhz and timings at 6, 3, 3, 2.5

current fsb is 265x9...anything higher would be unstable

here is my system specs:

Case: Antec Super Lanboy ATX
PSU: Antec TruePower 550w
CPU: Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939
MB: MSI K8N Neo2
Memory: 1GB Kingston ValueRAM PC3200
Video Card: LeadTek Geforce 6800 GT
DVD-RW: Plextor PX-708A
Speakers: Altec Lansing VS4121
Monitor: SamSung Syncmaster 712N LCD
Disks: 60GB & 80GB Maxtors 7200RPM

jort 15th January 2005 12:49

my HT is at 3x,

Da_BoKa 15th January 2005 14:40

actually that is the LTD that is set to 3x :)

jmke 15th January 2005 15:12

changing HT from 3x to 5x has no impact on performance, set it at 3x and try to push the FSB as high as it can go

Sharpside 15th January 2005 22:33

Threads like this make me eager to buy a A64 setup :D

jort 15th January 2005 22:44

yeah i saw the result of windwithme and i tought:o
and i found a job so
sold that slow P4 and bought a even slower a64, but when you oc that slow thing i become one of the fastest there is(aircooled offcourse)

Hanif 16th January 2005 03:18

im not too sure my memory is capable for overclocking because i cant seem to overclock past 264FSB

my memory is 1gb of kingston valueram pc3200

jort 16th January 2005 09:20

i can oc that mutch with takems or others cheap mem.
if you set a divider every mem can run then.

If pc crach=> cpu is too high oc'ed
If pc reboot=> mem is not stable

;)

Hanif 16th January 2005 19:03

ive tried almost everything can u tell me how to acheive a compromised cpu o/c?

Hanif 16th January 2005 19:37

update: I think I've finally acheived a stable overclock of 265x9...i just adjusted the memory voltage higher and set the mem mhz to 133

what kind of stepping and batch you have?
you need a good batch, stepping, mobo and luck to acheave this ;)

Hanif 16th January 2005 20:10

what does stepping and batch refer to? here is my system specs:

Case: Antec Super Lanboy ATX
PSU: Antec TruePower 550w
CPU: Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939
MB: MSI K8N Neo2
Memory: 1GB Kingston ValueRAM PC3200

DVD-RW: Plextor PX-708A
Speakers: Altec Lansing VS4121
Monitor: SamSung Syncmaster 712N LCD
Disks: 60GB & 80GB Maxtors 7200RPM

jort 16th January 2005 20:19

something like this

just write everything down

my batch is 0029 and stepping 0439VPEW

Hanif 16th January 2005 20:24

oh i dont know its installed already on my motherboard...the heatsink is covering it so i dont know...umm is it important to know?

jort 16th January 2005 20:25

yes

Hanif 16th January 2005 20:41

well im not taking it apart...ive got the box if i can refer to that

at least, can you give me some tips plz?....since ive increased the mem voltage to 2.80v ive been getting better stability

jort 16th January 2005 20:58

i don't now what your mem can handle,
look for a review and see how mutch V you may put on it.

Hanif 16th January 2005 20:59

here is my first successful o/c at 2.4ghz

how is it??

jort 16th January 2005 21:01

nice, but maybe you can move it to another thread?
because otherwise no one will see the trees in the forrest

just make a thread and i'll pm jmke for it

Hanif 16th January 2005 22:09

cant i improve on the memory frequency?
