Default NVIDIA ION fails to capture much attention of manufacturers

It is said that NVIDIA big guy is now in Taiwan promoting the ION platform, that is the chipset to power the Intel Atom processor for Netbooks or NetPCs.

Although they're trying hard to promote this product, we understand that it is the cost factor that is deterring manufacturers from jumping into the bandwagon. One reason is that Intel Atom processors and Intel supporting chipset is sold as a bundle. It would be more costly to purchase just the Atom Processor and acquire the NVIDIA chipsets seperately.

Bear in mind that this chipset is just another incarnation of the desktop variant MCP7A(desktop). Thus, there will still be some demand of such designs as the GeForce 9400M, the chipset for the ION platform is able to support DirectX 10 graphics with advanced digital display connectivity. It also supports NVIDIA® CUDA™ technology unlocks the power of the GPU to accelerate the most demanding system processing tasks. Most importantly, I think the support and hardware acceleration for playback of 1080p HD video with true-fidelity 7.1 audio is the most interesting feature of this chipset.
