Default Intel's 8-core Coffee Lake refresh may come this autumn

Possible 22-core HEDT as well

According to a report, Intel could launch its rumored 8th gen Coffee Lake refresh 8-core CPUs in September.

Intel is obviously feeling a lot of pressure from AMD and 2nd generation Ryzen and upcoming 2nd gen Ryzen Threadripper CPUs and it does not come as a surprise that the company is gearing up to refresh its lineup, with the possible date set for September.

According to a report coming from PC Watch site, citing unnamed sources from the Computex 2018 show, Intel may launch its 8-core/16-thread 8th generation Coffee Lake refresh desktop CPU in September, which may well explain why the recently released 40th anniversary Core i7-8086K is a Limited Edition CPU. The CPU will fit Intel's LGA1151 socket and will be supported by the existing 300-series chipsets.

In addition to the consumer desktop high-end offer, Intel will also refresh its high-end desktop (HEDT) platform as well, bringing a new die that will allow the company to introduce 20-core and 22-core SKUs. These will compete with AMD's recently announced 24-core and 32-core Ryzen 2nd generation Threadripper CPUs and these should fit Intel's existing LGA2066 socket on the X299 chipset.

The showcased 28-core/56-thread CPU running at 5GHz for all cores, which Intel such eagerly demoed at the Computex 2018 press conference, most likely won't come anytime soon, at least not in that iteration, as it was both done on custom motherboards and was heavily overclocked with the "slight" help of rather hefty 1hp industrial water chiller.
