Default AMD Processors Power New High-End Computer Series From Lenovo for Multimedia Home Use

AMD Teams up With Lenovo to Launch AMD Athlon(TM) 64 and AMD Athlon XP Processor-Based Lenovo Feng Xing V Series in China

BEIJING, Jun 9, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- AMD (AMD) today announced Lenovo Group Ltd is introducing the AMD Athlon(TM) 64 and AMD Athlon XP processor-based "Lenovo Feng Xing V" series home PC. This desktop PC series has been designed specifically for PC users looking to maximize productivity and deliver a true-to-life digital entertainment experience. Systems are widely available in Lenovo 1+1 stores throughout China starting today.

Lenovo is introducing two high-end home PCs: the AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+-based Lenovo Feng Xing V8000, and the AMD Athlon XP processor 3000+-based Lenovo Feng Xing V6000. Designed for a broad range of demanding customers, the systems offer outstanding performance for the 32-bit software of today while preparing for a seamless transition to the 64-bit applications of tomorrow.

"The AMD processor-based Lenovo Feng Xing V series home computer is the result of AMD and Lenovo cooperating in response to customers' demands for exceptional multimedia capabilities on 32-bit processors while paving the way for 64-bit computing," said Daryl Sartain, director, desktop product marketing, Microprocessor Business Unit, Computation Products Group at AMD. "As one of the world's premier PC manufacturers, Lenovo enjoys remarkable brand recognition with strong R&D resources, outstanding marketing and an excellent channel and service network. Lenovo's extensive local resources, together with AMD technology, are bringing world-class products to China's users, providing them with the opportunity to experience first-hand the excitement of an immersive digital entertainment experience. We are proud Lenovo has chosen AMD processors for this powerful, high-end computer series."

"Lenovo has been working hard to provide related products and technology to satisfy a wide variety of customer needs," said Jia ZhaoHui, general manager of Lenovo Retail Product Business Department. "The AMD processor-based consumer computer launched today will be able to better satisfy end user needs on broadband, 3D gaming, audio visual entertainment, and special applications based on 64-bit platforms."

AMD64 processors have the added security benefit of Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP). This capability, when enabled by the upcoming Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Service Pack 2, will be able to prevent the execution of certain types of malicious viruses.

"Broadband applications have come of age, and with the expanding scope of Internet access, enhanced applications need higher performance PCs," said Xu Siqing, general manager of China Netcom's data product division. "AMD processors have world-class computing power and performance while Lenovo has world-leading computing technology and predominant market share. The combination of these two provides an outstanding choice for broadband Internet users. I believe establishing a value chain with a chip manufacturer, a PC manufacturer, and an Internet access and content service provider will help promote the further development of China's broadband business."

(With over 1.1 Billion people; I'd better get some AMD stock)
