AMD preparing Combat Crate hardware bundles with MSI

Might not be focused on a single partner

According to a leak and a listing spotted on Amazon, it appears that AMD is working with MSI to bundle some of its Ryzen CPUs with a motherboard and a graphics card, giving those buyers all they "need to game".

The original leak came from Videocardz.com, spotting such a Combat Crate bundle from MSI on Amazon.com. The deal includes either a Ryzen 5 1600 or the Ryzen 7 1700, bundled with MSI's B350 Tomahawk motherboard and the RX 580 Armor 8GB OC graphics card. In addition of getting rid of B350 motherboards, before the update B450 chipset rolls to the market, it also allows AMD to sell its RX 580 graphics card directly to gamers, making such bundle uninteresting for cryptocurrency miners.

AMD has still to officially confirm such bundles but the pictured box does look like AMD's official marketing. AMD could also be countering Nvidia's GPP move by offering some partners a way to move more of their products, in this case, graphics card and a motherboard. It also allows AMD to move some of its remaining 1st-generation Ryzen CPUs.

While it might sound like a great deal at $599, PCWorld.com was keen to note that this isn't exactly a great value as all those components can be found for as low as $587, at least if you manage to find the RX 580 graphics card out of the bundle.

In any case, we will wait for AMD's official response on these Combat Crate bundles and hopefully, it includes more than just MSI as a partner.
