Default How much you know about PC depends on where you live.

United States is a huge Country, at times; we just forget how big it really is. Although we go to familiar restaurant chains, Super Markets, Wal-Mart Stores and Motel chains, PC enthusiasts and users may find themselves indirectly influenced by what is available locally. Despite of the drastic increase in DSL and Cable subscribers in recent years together with the ease of on-line shopping and new product being published on an hourly basis by many review sites, many people in certain locales have not followed the same path.

After 4 local computer shows in the last 4 months in the Mid-West, this is what I’ve gathered;

1) 9 out of 10 computer show visitors have not seen or heard of Thermalright, Lian-Li, Cooler-Master and Swieftech products.
2) Less than 1% has seen water (liquid) cooling.
3) Radeon 9200 SE is a powerful vcard.
4) Case ventilation is by installing all case fans blowing out of the case from all directions.
5) Wireless mice and keyboards; speakers; and no brand power supplies dominated the show.
6) A PC enthusiast is one who has 17 case fans with a dead Mobo and CPU looking for another Mobo and CPU.
7) Pricings on most common hardware; HDD, Mobo, Vcards, Chassis, and Monitors are about 10-20% higher than at Best Buy or from most on line shopping sites.
8) Overclocking applied to aliens.
9) A system builder (building 50 systems a month as he claimed) at the show was busy looking for “God knows what” when he asked “how could an AXP-M be installed on desktop?’.
10) Most of the visitors are friendlier than usual.

Lesson learnt:

1) There is room for improvement in every corner of the world.
2) Don’t be totally relaxed thinking your products are well placed in the market.
3) Don’t assume Marketing and Sales have done everything possible.
4) Don’t assume they’ve read what you wrote.

I know I have much to learn.

printed magazines & computer shows attract PC noobs, people who don't own a PC or one that is so old it doesn't even load DOS.

the chance that they read internet review websites is very small.

I don't mean to laugh at anyone; nor do I feel knowing more than anyone. I merely try to say the winner is the one who learns something at the end of the day. I'm glad that I was there; and talked to many friendly people. We have much to do despite our best effort.
