![]() | Weather wasn't dry enough yesterday to do a lot of work, but I was glad to see it cleared up today. I didn't update before, since only swung by the BMW dealer to pick up my order and prepared some engine parts in order to paint them. ![]() This is mainly what was done the day before yesterday: I removed almost all of the leftovers from the gaskets. Did the same thing to the intake manifold, which is now waiting for it's spraypaint. I got some MoTip Engine Paint today, and decided on the colorscheme. It's going to be a sober aluminum touch on a classy, glossy metallic black. Ran me for about €14 per can. ![]() This is about everything I got from the dealer, except for the 2 airfilters which aren't in the picture. The grey rubber thingie in the middle is an engine support - I doubt I have mentioned this already, but I knew from the start one of the supports had ripped. It's noticeable when gearing up quite fast and giving her lots of throttle, which "rocks" the engine block back and forth. There was a picture of the old support, but I can't seem to find it. Owe you that one. ![]() Valve cover. Or not? ![]() A picture tells more then a thousand words. The M10B18 is a Single OverHead Camshaft engine (SOHC) with 8 valves (makes for 2 per cylinder, the absolute minimum ), chain-driven in stead of the more common belt-drive form. ![]() Can't have dust nor dirt in our head, can we? ![]() The removed valve cover. The copper-like spots are covered with very sturdy sort of corrosion. It isn't really corrosion tho, as it does not affect the aluminum. ![]() Thoroughly cleaned, lightly sanded. First layer of paint goes on. It quickly moved to my improvised paint cabin, where it's now hardening after 7 coats. I hope this paint holds: if it starts to crack or comes off altogether, I'll have it powdercoated. Might seem a bit less spectacular than the past couple of days, but these weren't the fun jobs. Cleaning up those gasket remains was a pain in the *ss, glad I'm done with that. Now, as a follow-up to my explanation about why I'm doing all this: ![]() Now wouldn't you do anything to keep such a sweety safe? ![]() |

![]() | OMFG, if I did that with my Audi I'd be stranded with a dead car as I would have no clue of how to put in all back together ![]()
