P4 chip makes too much noise This may sound odd, but I get a splitting headache from the high pitched noise from my P4 2.6C. I'm not sure it's the chip itself, but it originates somehere near the heatsink and is way louder when I stress my cpu so I asume it's the chip itself. Can this problem be solved? My amd 2ghz made a similar sound, but much less loud. |
make sure the heatsink is properly seated, what are your temps? |
idle temp is about 15 degrees, stressed 30 degrees over room temp. Sounds a lot, but ppl say the is7 reads 15 degrees to high. I get really high temps on both my is7's, with both an SLK900 and a stock 3.2C cooler, and both a 2.8 and a 2.6C, so I think the heatsink is properly seated. |
When I remove the heatsink of my P4 it's start to makes a hissing sound also, or when the cpu is not cooled enough (bad contact with heatsink) it makes the same sound. |
I've checked and the stock 3.2C cooler is totally concave, it doesn't touch the cpu at all. Oddly the P4 2.6C remains stable while gaming at 3.4Ghz. :) But when I install my SLK900 (wich makes perfect contact), I've got the same hissing sound. :/ |
try removing the heatsink from your CPU, check the sound, should be hissing. |
Just tried it. It doesn't make more sound when I remove the heatsink. CPU temp skyrockets though. :) |

if so: RMA, you will call them and say that you installed it with the default intel cooler, and that is has a hissing sound. |
Ok, i'll try the 2.8C first. If it makes the same noise, RMA won't be the solution. |
maiboard maybe ? with the p4p800 vm I did not heard anything like that. |
