Cooling/CPU Cooling by jmke @ 2008-07-22

OCZ has released a revised version of their Vendetta CPU Cooler; this second generation features a larger 120mm fan and also Direct-Touch-Heatpipe design, maximizing performance at acceptable noise levels! Let´s find out how it stacks up to the competition as we compare this new unit to 44 previously tested CPU Coolers.

A Closer Look

The Vendetta is a tower heatsink, a series of custom design aluminium fins make up the body of the HSF with a 3 U-form copper heat pipes rising high enough from the base to allow a 120mm fan to cover all the fins.

The base is quite unique as the heat pipes are in direct contact with the CPU, there is an aluminium bracket holding the heat pipes in place but this unit doesn’t actually touch the CPU.

A close up of the heatsink base shows the attention to detail of creating a nice flat surface at the bottom of the 3 copper heat pipes.

The front side of the Vendetta is nice and flat, to allow a snug fit with a 120mm in front of these fins;

At the backside however the OCZ Vendetta deviates from the Xigmatek design as the aluminium fins are much wider here and stick out at the areas where the 120mm fan will have the most impact.

A view from the top reveals small dimples in each fin to increase surface area and friction as the air is pushed through the heatsink. At each side of the heatsink you also see a round cut-out which serves as mounting for the cooling fan.
