Sparkle 8800GTS 512MB Review: G92 Madness Continues

Videocards/VGA Reviews by geoffrey @ 2008-01-28

The G92 based Geforce 8800GT was a very exciting product, unfortunately NVIDIA was short of supply and lower priced ATI HD3850 & HD3870 gained a lot of popularity this way. The higher-end market still remained untouched; to fill up this gap NVIDIA came up with a second wave of 8800GTS video cards. With the GT in mind, could we be dealing with yet another great NVIDIA product? We find out.

Call of Duty 4

Call of Duty 4
Official website

Call of Duty 4 is back on PC, the last installment was COD2 which was WW2 orientated, COD4 takes us to the near future where we now have the fight our way through cities and duck from enemy snipers, charge encampments in the middle of the night with green tinted goggles strapped on our heads. As with the previous games, COD4 is a fast paced game with an arcade approach the FPS shooter genre. Respawning enemies and unlimited “health” are just some of the features which make this game less than realistic, but not less entertaining.

The game engine can be quite taxing once you crank everything up to maximum settings, but the end result is worth it, with realistic smoke effects and large scale battles.

The Call of Duty demo was very fun to run through, but I must say that even at the 1600x1200 resolution it did not really demand too much from our tested video cards. Overall the new GTS came at as fastest together with the superclocked 8800 GTS 320MB from XFX, but as you can see there is nearly no difference in minimal frame rate when comparing the fastest and slowest video card in our selected test scene. Looking at average FPS, the HD3870 may be looking not that great, but considering it offers the same gaming performance in our selected test scene I think we can say that it in fact offers great value as it is much lower priced then any other selected video card.
