Sparkle 8800GTS 512MB Review: G92 Madness Continues

Videocards/VGA Reviews by geoffrey @ 2008-01-28

The G92 based Geforce 8800GT was a very exciting product, unfortunately NVIDIA was short of supply and lower priced ATI HD3850 & HD3870 gained a lot of popularity this way. The higher-end market still remained untouched; to fill up this gap NVIDIA came up with a second wave of 8800GTS video cards. With the GT in mind, could we be dealing with yet another great NVIDIA product? We find out.

3D Mark 2001 shows us nothing, with nearly every of the tested video card we succeeded in getting over 50k 3D Marks, in the future this test might disappear as it no longer has any value. In more modern incarnations of the 3D Mark benchmarking application the new GTS has no trouble taking the lead, but in the end it does not seem to be much faster then the 8800 GT. Have a look at our 3D Mark 2006 results:

The latest iteration 3D Mark test software again shows us the 512MB GTS topping out, compared to the 8800 GT it scores 6% higher which is not really the kind of performance gain we would have expected. The former GTS got beaten with nearly 30%, now that is some progress over less then a year 8800 GTS production! For now, we've seen that the G92 GTS is the fastest video card found under €300, the performance increase is rather small compared to the 8800 GT, let's have a look at what happens in-game ->
