Ultra Grid ATX Mid Tower Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by jmke @ 2007-08-26

The Ultra Grid is an affordable mid tower case with two 120mm set up front and back, the side panel features a fancy window, which give you a look inside at the tool less features for HDD and Optical drives. Large enough to fit a Geforce 8800 GTX let´s see if it can keep an overclocked Core 2 Duo running cool.

Size Comparison & Outside Look

Size comparison

Comparing the size of the Ultra Grid with the other cases we have reviewed in the past, you can see it’s not the biggest of them all. In fact, looking at the front, it’s the smallest case we tested yet.

It’s not the smallest length wise though and offers enough room to fit the largest of VGA cards:

Outside Look

Let’s start with the front of the Grid, which should explain the origin of the case’s name, the case features a front door with cut-out to allow one 5.25” to be directly accessed when the door is closed. The door is made from hard plastic, the hinges are also plastic, but a piece of metal is holding the panel and door together, increasing the strength. It will take some serious clumsiness to snap this door off.

The pivot point of the door is enforced with metal pin:

With the door open you have access to all drive bays, as well as the power/reset button, with the camera flash the mesh of the in-take fan is revealed, without flash it’s actually really well hidden. At the right side are 2xUSB ports, mic and headphone connectors. There’s a placeholder for Firewire but not installed.

Doesn't beat the PC-7 as affordable mid-tower, especially now in the 3rd gen with all the goodies added (softmounted HD cage, 3rd 120 sidepanel fan).

side panel fans are counterproductive for airflow afaik. no Lian-Li contact yet :/ will search more
