Samsung Digimax S700 Digital Camera Review

Others/Miscelleneous by SidneyWong @ 2007-08-03

The Samsung Digitmax S700 digital camera incorporates some of the features that are not common from the traditional camera makers such as Nikon and Canon. The Digimax S700 may satisfy most users looking for low cost, point and shoot family duties with maximum 7.2 MegaPixels resolution and readily available household AA battery.

You notice the lack of optical viewfinder. The 2.5" LCD will serve the primary duty. We will go through all the settings next.

The S700 has typical lens relative to aperture f/stop comparing to others in this price range. However, you really have two f/stop settings. In wide angle mode- 2.8 or 7.1f; Tele mode- 4.9 or 12.4 f. While shutter speeds can be adjusted from 8s, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1.5 1, 0.7, 0.5, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8, 1/10 to 1/15, 1/20, 1/30, 1/60, 1/90 to 1/1500s. In a nutshell, this is better than none, at least it provides some of your creative settings other than the pre-programmed modes. These settings are available only in manual mode.

White balance features can only be accessed using Manual Mode, surprisingly I could not locate this from the manual. Here you can select Auto, Sun, Cloud, Fluorescent, Tungsten and "Measure". In addition, the over/under exposure bar is displayed on the LCD screen; center being dead on, left side is under and right side is over exposed according to the sensor. Since, there is no mentioned in the manual, I could only assume the bar indicator is in 1/3 f/stop increment.

Samsung guarantees up to 2GB SD memory storage; when I installed/inserted a 4GB SD card, "memory full" warning flashes telling me it is a "no go".
