Zalman HD135 HTPC Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by geoffrey @ 2006-09-03

Zalman has been on the pc components market since past century. Through all those years they?ve evolved into one of the biggest silent computing companies in the world not only having silent CPU coolers, but also offering chipset/video card cooling, water-cooling, fanless cases, power supply?s, audio products,... And still, they continue to develop even more products. We take a closer look at their latest HTPC case, the HD135.

When I first removed this case from its large box I was impressed with its elegant design and sleek looks. It will fit nicely into a modern multimedia home, next to your LCD/Plasma TV. The front door hides the ?not so fancy? connectors but they remain easily accessible. The light weight material used by Zalman doesn?t affect the quality or sturdiness of the case.

Installation went smoothly without issues except for Power Supply placement, the review model received had problems accommodating ~150mm standard ATX PSUs, however the retail version of the HD135 will be slightly different as it will allow PSU?s up to 168mm in length.

Zalman kept the amount of screws to a minimum, the PCI/AGP clip-on system works as designed; installing a graphics card never went this quickly. There is a multitude of cables inside but with the help of the detailed instructions manual you?ll have them connected properly in no time.

The included software works nicely with the included remote control and adds a lot of functionality to this case. The front panel LCD is simple yet effective in providing up to date information of the music playing/system status/etc.

Noise wise Zalman gives you the liberty to go from absolutely silent to ?medium? load by adjusting the two case fan?s speed through software control.

All in all I have to say that Zalman might have created a big competitor for its own HD165 HTPC case. The HD135 might be the little brother, but it?s very capable and allows you to fit full spec ATX system parts.

I would like to thank Zalman for allowing us to test drive their latest product.
