Intel Dothan 780 Overclocking with Liquid Nitrogen (LN2)

Overclocking/Overclocking Tests by Jort @ 2006-04-06

At -190?C you might be surprised how high you can overclock a CPU, with a few liters of Liquid Nitrogen to spare we poured it over a Pentium M 780 to see how high it would soar. Of course we don?t want to destroy our hardware so we?ll show you how to prevent condensation to save your hardware from failure.

After taking off the container we can see the contact with the CPU was quite good, and the temperature were low enough for testing at close to 4Ghz.

After removing the CT479 adapter we cleaned up the motherboard and then use a hairdryer to heat up the board and help remove any remaining condensation.

Reinstalling everything but this time with an air-cooled heatsink we saw the system booting flawlessly so we were happy to not have damaged any hardware.

We still have quite a bit of LN2 left so the story isn’t over yet, but for now we wish you farewell and until next time.

And remember, nothing makes your teeth more shiny and bright than some good old LN2 before you go to bed:
