Mega of Hardware origin - China

Others/Editorials by SidneyWong @ 2005-12-24

The Mega of Personal Computer hardware center, China makes more hardware for PC than any other places in the world while some of the sales and marketing functions are being handled by Taiwan for now. There is no better place than Guangzhou, China in terms of weather; gourmet food; access to sea port; the city has more than 2,800 years of history.

Closing Thoughts

My Closing Thoughts:

As a PC enthusiast, I surely could understand why PC prices continue to drop in the past several years with over 90% components being made in China at such a low cost. The virtue of the Chinese people at large is "saving", seldom do they waste anything. While Westerners and the people from Taiwan/Hong Kong are trying to capitalize on its low labor cost, China is enjoying the rapid growth with which they must deal with gingerly. Seeing an ancient country filled with over 4,600 years of written history growing at a rate of a toddler is simply amazing.

Overall, I found PC component prices are slightly lower in the U.S. and before long, Lenovo may well change the situation in making sure affordable systems to more PC owners. As for internet censorship only the future can tell.

To some business people, dealing in China is a great challenge. I found a layer of smoke screen, blocking my vision at times. I would only wish the smoke will clear soon enough, or is it because we find the smoke screen to be more adventurous?

In the last 14 days, I've learnt the system with which China monitors and controls population growth. I experienced its internet activity "monitoring" system; transit system (privately run bus routes). There are many more I like to find out. No matter what happens, with McDonald, KFC and Starbucks coffee signs all over, it is the global way of life we all live in. One thing for sure, I shall return soon. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed traveling there.
