The new ice age: Athlon 4000+ Clawhammer Overclocking

Overclocking/Overclocking Tests by petervandamned @ 2005-06-10

The summer is coming and we like to keep our CPU running cool. In search for the highest overclock in the World with an Athlon 64 4000+ Clawhammer, will we succeed? Come and follow the path to the Ice Planet.

Dry Ice-ing on the cake

Ingredients for a nice stew:

  • 10 kilo Dry Ice
  • Some acetone

    Mix this and you get a lovely flavor.

    So put 5ml acetone in the container, that’s all that’s needed, it will last your complete run. Now take you Dry Ice:

    Now this mixture boils the first time (that’s why I build some plexi housing)

    But in a few minutes the “boiling” is gone and you can start playing around and just need to fill the container from time to time to keep your PC running chilly.

    Here’s why I used the Plexi:

    Got some nice cold results

    As these first tests were done without the PC actually running, condensation forms easily:

    So now it’s time for real deal, after powering on the PC I was able to overclock the Athlon 64 4000+ (Clawhammer) to 3523Mhz, which is one of the (if not the) highest overclocks for a Clawhammer Core A64

  • According to a topic on XtremeSystems I am now holder for the World record Clawhammer 4000+

    Validation score: 3523 MHz 4000+ clawhammer power

    Pifast completes in 36.41 seconds

    Even the older A64 3500+ from youpy overclocks nicely to 3200Mhz, in our excitement we forgot to make validation screenshots in Windows;

    Pifast was acting up also once the PC is running on the borderline of stability:
