Intro & Installation

Today we take a look at A.C.Ryan’s solution for silencing and cooling your 3.5" hard drive by using large aluminum heatsinks and foam blocks.

In the package you get 2 large aluminum heatsinks (painted black) and a set of different sized foam pads, A.C.Ryan also includes a Y-splitter to you don’t lose a power connector.

Installation is quite easy; the only challenging part is cutting up one of the foam pads to make it fit your HDD’s connections.

Place your HDD in the middle of the first aluminum heatsink

Take one of the small foam pads and line HDD and the Pad up on the heatsink

Then cut out the second foam pad:

Do a test fitting with your IDE cable and power cable connected:

Put the second heatsink on the top and sandwich your HDD

Then screw on the plates, these are made from 2 thin aluminum plates sandwiching a plastic cover between them.

To finish the installation you put 2 large foam strips on each side:

Now find a spare 5.25” bay and slide the XTOR Xilencer inside, no need to screw it tight as the pressure on the foam pads at each side make sure the drive bay sits secure; LAN party ready! :-)

Let’s do some temperature and noise testing ->
