Videocards/VGA Reviews by Gamer @ 2004-01-16

We take a look at the Sparkle FX5700Ultra Platinum edition (SP8836U-PT), it improves upon nVidia's FX 5600 Ultra, while sporting ViVo features. Pitting it against the Radeon 9800 Pro to see how it holds up in popular benchmarks and games!

And so my time is up, I've used the FX5700 Ultra as my main gaming card for over a week and was very pleased with its performance. Although it doesn't soar as high as the R9800 Pro in benchmarks, it is capable of delivering fluent gameplay in both older as the more recent games. DirectX9 is the future and this budget card is ready for it!

This card is worth its asking price.. well.. almost. nVidia recently released a "low-end" FX 5900. This card is in the same price-class as the FX 5700 Ultra, but delivers better performance "out of the box". So it'll be up to other factors as availability and requirements when it comes down to picking the video card of your choice.

If you are into overclocking then you can still get a very nice performance boost from the Sparkle FX 5700 Ultra, the overclock of 580/1080 we obtained was rock-stable, showing no visual artefacts. This was with the default cooling installed; swapping it for a more extreme version will surely give you the ability to take it a little bit higher.

Using a 4ghz P4 we almost got 20.000 3DMark2001 points, good for a spot on the 1st page @ the ORB

Sparkle has delivered a good performing video card with excellent features, it's very interesting if you can find it at a sharp price (~€150), but at its current selling price of €200 it has stiff competition from nVidia's own FX 5900XT!

We would to thank Amal Eurobizz and Sparkle for letting us "test-drive" this video card.
