Videocards/VGA Reviews by Gamer @ 2004-01-16

We take a look at the Sparkle FX5700Ultra Platinum edition (SP8836U-PT), it improves upon nVidia's FX 5600 Ultra, while sporting ViVo features. Pitting it against the Radeon 9800 Pro to see how it holds up in popular benchmarks and games!

Unreal Tournament 2003, the DirectX8 test from [H]'s UT2K3 Benchmark Utility v2.1:

Madshrimps (c)

Only ~30% behind, not too shabby for a €200 video card!

Madshrimps (c)

When enabling 4*AA and 2*AF we see the card fall back, performing ~45% slower. But if you look at the numbers you'll see at no time does it go below 60 FPS, quite impressive!

Halo: Combat Evolved, a DirectX 9 game which taxes the system heavily, we used FRAPS 2.0 to measure the average frame rate during a 15min gaming session. We played through the same levels several times with each cards, here are the averages we obtained:

*FX5700 Ultra: 45 FPS
*R9800 Pro: 57 FPS

This game can become jerky when the FPS drops below 30FPS, luckily both cards we're able to keep up and deliver fluent gameplay!
