NAS Cases Compared - Fractal ARRAY R2 Mini ITX NAS Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by piotke @ 2010-08-22

Now that we have affordable unlimited internet in Belgium, the need for storage has grown. Of course you can fill your computer with hard disks, or to make it easier to share you can buy a bunch of external disks. But in my opinion a dedicated solution for storage, such as a NAS would be more practical. In this review we´ll be taking a look at some solutions.

Conclusive Thoughts

For those who are in to computer building and who want to spend some time configuring a NAS, the Fractal R2 case comes heartily recommended. With a price tag of about 165 euro it sits comfortably in the higher echelon of NAS cases; but looking at similar products which fit up to 6 HDDs you won't be far away from this asking price.

You'll get decent build quality, well positioned disks, and extremely silent cooling.

PRO
Liberty of installing any mainboard, and enough space for a video card with huge cooling.
Decent build quality
Very Silent
Space for six hard disk, and perhaps more with some modding.

CON
No guide or manual
No hard disk indicator leds
Requires removal of all loose parts to be installed

Big thanks to Bjarne from Spacepromotion to give us the possibility to test this NAS case.

We would like to than Milan and Rogier from Asus for the ITX board they provided.
