CORSAIR K95 RGB PLATINUM XT Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2020-01-06

Since our preferred driver is the K70 RGB MK.2 Low Profile keyboard with MX Speed switches, we felt right at home with the K95 RGB PLATINUM XT so no extra training period was necessary. MX Speed is great for competitive gaming titles since it can deliver very fast response times thanks to the 1.2mm actuation distance, while the actuation force is only 45g but in case of regular typing such as writing large articles it gets a bit tricky if you are constantly switching from Speed to Red, Brown or other types of switches. This last model does bring to the table all the goodies it had with the previous models and also adds integration with Elgato Stream Deck software in case you do not feel the need of purchasing the actual Stream Deck hardware, with more programmable buttons to your disposal.

A Closer Look Part II

First, we will like to remind of the offered S-key keycap set, useful if you are a streamer and working with the Elgato Stream Deck utility; next, we do have the CORSAIR logo key, offered as a replacement for the stock ESC key:

The offered keycaps for streaming purposes do have blue covers and also a grippy texture for faster access:

WASD replacement keys with the same texture are the well-known FPS set, while the key puller does assist removing the keycaps without damaging them:

The MOBA keycap set is not missing either:

The latest reincarnation of the K95 does weight about 1.31kg without the palm rest and does include the anodized brushed aluminum top layer for extended durability, easier cleaning and a premium construction look:

The stock keycap set is built from an ultra-durable PBT thermoplastic polymer that is precision molded with a medium textured finish for added grip and features 1.5mm thick walls for extra durability. You have surely heard of double-shot keycaps before; on the top area of the frame we have the Profile key that cycles through the available profiles and changes color to indicate the current selection. The Brightness key is next, which allows LED backlight adjustment in 33% increments, while the Windows lock key disables the Windows key for preventing accidental keypresses:

The middle CORSAIR logo is RGB enabled and configurable in three different segments:

The Lock indicators light up for Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock activations:

With CORSAIR keyboards we do really enjoy using the volume roller, that allows smooth adjustments; a Mute button is placed on the same line with it, while further down we have the Media keys:

Six Macro keys are available on the left side, that can be also used for streaming action purposes:
