CORSAIR K95 RGB PLATINUM XT Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2020-01-06

Since our preferred driver is the K70 RGB MK.2 Low Profile keyboard with MX Speed switches, we felt right at home with the K95 RGB PLATINUM XT so no extra training period was necessary. MX Speed is great for competitive gaming titles since it can deliver very fast response times thanks to the 1.2mm actuation distance, while the actuation force is only 45g but in case of regular typing such as writing large articles it gets a bit tricky if you are constantly switching from Speed to Red, Brown or other types of switches. This last model does bring to the table all the goodies it had with the previous models and also adds integration with Elgato Stream Deck software in case you do not feel the need of purchasing the actual Stream Deck hardware, with more programmable buttons to your disposal.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

The beginning of 2020 means a new CES and this also translates in a lot of new hardware goodies from different manufacturers. One of the CORSAIR high-end peripherals freshly launched this year is the K95 RGB PLATINUM XT mechanical keyboard, which has now cross-functionality with the Elgato Stream Deck Software, a brand new palm rest design, bigger hardware storage space for profiles, re-worked CHERRY MX SPEED and MX Brown switches with ratings of up to 100 million keystrokes instead of the usual 50 million and more!

The box in which the product is shipped is quite large and has a different, more premium design than the previous models we have previously reviewed; right from the top cover, we will get to see a photo of the K95 RGB PLATINUM XT keyboard in operation, with the palm rest attached as well:

The manufacturer does also include some logos, describing integration with the iCUE software, the type of used switches but also the number of rated keypresses:

On the side, we will spot the technical specifications, along with the box contents list and the info that the keyboard is also shipped with a 2-year warranty:

The opposite area will show the “Play through whatever” saying, describing the fact that the product is ideal for this type of activity:

Even more details on the keyboard main features can be spotted on the back side of the box:

After lifting the top cover, we will get to see the main product, which is also wrapped inside a transparent plastic layer, for extra protection during transit:

The lower layer is reserved for the rest of the bundle:

The secondary cardboard enclosure does contain lots of extra keycaps, along with a key puller; the product is also accompanied by the Warranty Guide, along with a multilanguage Quick Starter Guide:

The previously mentioned guide will offer the necessary details to get the keyboard in operating order:
